@SomeQaptainSlandersQlipz I would need a reason beyond you just wanting to get back to ledge sometimes and feeling frustrated. I presented 2 reasons in my comment: 1) recovery is really strong in this game, and wanting to buff it further by weakening edge guarding sounds bad. 2) making edge guarding better makes stage control more important and the on-stage neutral more dynamic as a result And here is another reason: I think if you read that someone's going to ledge or if you make it so they have no other option but to go to ledge, then you have won the edge guard and should be able to take the stock full stop. The idea that you could force someone to have no option other than sweet spotting and then they should just get to grab ledge anyways and get actionable I-frames feels terrible. It makes it almost always a good idea to go to ledge without even thinking about it, and funnels a bunch of varied potential interactions into a narrower, less dynamic one over and over

@@Extracredittttt I'm not saying that this game is trash I'm saying it's not meant for people who are casually into platform fighters. If this game was straight up garbage I would have returned it but I didn't. Rivals 1 not having Shields is unarguably one of the things that made it the most unique. It forced you to use your movement options more than you would have to in a traditional smash game. That's what I liked about rivals 1 and in this game it's missing plus you can't even up B twice anymore and wall jumping is heavily de-emphasized. Let's also not ignore the fact that Dan himself said that console ports, cross play, workshop, in the story mode are all at least a year away. If you don't want to go into this game and sweat online they're literally isn't anything else to do.

@SomeQaptainSlandersQlipz maybe you don't have friends to play it with. Because the casual experience is great if you have friends who start at the same time as you. This is what I've been doing and I've barely touched the matchmaking No shields in rivals was one of its biggest drawbacks. The game became ridiculously spammy at the mid to higher levels. I still loved it, but the game is deeper for the addition of shields and movement is still just as relevant as it ever was. We still have hitfalling, easier wavedashes and wave lands, insane terrain-changing mechanics, a bunch of crazy special+cancel movement options and moonwalk applications, etc. in fact now there are *more* crazy terrain mechanics because of special get ups and pummels, which have never existed in a platform fighter before let alone melee Saying this game is a melee clone because it has shields and ledges now is reductive to the point of absurdity. Also, to be clear I wasn't saying you called the game trash I said that telling others to not buy it is trash behavior when you don't even understand the base mechanics

If you actually watch the video you would see the part where I go in-depth and say that this game is not for everyone because it is literally unfinished content-wise. @Extracredittttt Even though I'm not the greatest at the movent in Rivals 1, NASB 2, ULT, SM4SH, Brawl, 64, SSF 2, Icons, Brawlout, Brawlhalla, Multiversus and probably some others I can't think of currently and the movement in all those games feel good at a beginner level and a higher level. A game that feels good will feel good at all levels of play. I want this game to succeed but real criticisms have to be made for every game in the space trying to be another goddamn melee. It's okay to make a platform fighter that feels different from melee. I will even go so far as to say the ones that don't feel like it are the ones that are most likely to succeed Rivals 1 felt nothing like Melee due to Dan's coding expertise not being up to par. I feel like he should have embraced what does limitations created instead of acting like they were mistakes they should have fixed.

@SomeQaptainSlandersQlipz well firstly I would say that the movement in multiversus, Brawl and SM4SH feels terrible imo - clunky, floaty and and non-expressive - and I would also say i have seen a bunch of people pick up rivals 2 and love the movement right away, so your experience is not a universal one. Moreover, even if this were true, this doesn't address my counter example of melee being a game that is excellent with great movement that doesn't feel good to move in as a beginner. the claim that "a game that feels good feels good to play at all levels" is flatly, provably false and just feels like you trying to add weight or meaning to your sloppy first impression. Maybe you think a good game *should* feel good to play at all levels, but the idea that all good games (especially fighting games) feel good when you don't even know what the mechanics are is borderline insane. Also, this game is NOT trying to be another melee. Everything that made rivals special is present here, including initially unintentional mechanics like hitfalling. The character designs are what made rivals unique and all of those cool mechanics not only return, but have been made even crazier with the addition of special pummels and get ups. The movement tweaks like wavedashing with horizontal stick position and cancelling jumpsquat are also still here and make it easy to cruise around in Adding in shields is not making it "another melee" lol. Shields and ledges are obvious improvements that deepen the gameplay. The idea that they game should be worse just to mimic its original limitations is silly. There should be a reason you keep something if you're going to keep it. This is some shallow, dismissive analysis of a game you haven't taken the time to understand. If you just said you couldn't get into the movement flow, or that you didn't like it or didn't understand how things worked and weren't having fun, that'd be fine and I would have no gripes. But pretending that these generalizations are meaningful, incisive, valid, or productive criticisms makes you look like either a clout shark or a clown. Speak for yourself and don't encourage people to not buy a game you haven't even sunk your teeth into yet

@yarnf you're right about it not punishing you as hard as melee input wise because there's an actual buffer system in this game even though it's not as think forward as I personally like. A better description would be it feels like what melee would feel like if Daddy Sakks had time to actually clean up the gameplay properly. I still stand on what I said either way and this comment section is proving my point. A lot of y'all that are commenting are more enthusiastic about 5.5 fighters than the average person who would be unsure about if they want this game or not.
