From the first explosions you know it's going to be great. Florence Quivar is a great artist, Levine's conducting here is at its best. She might not have the perfect voice for the role but she doesn't do anything wrong, she has a truly beautiful voice all around, on the low notes not strongly developed but at least it's not ugly like most singers nowadays.

With her drama, her phenomenal interpretation and her acting, she puts ALL other sopranos in the shade. Probably the best interpreter of the Italian repertoire since Callas. I've seen and heard her five times on stage and was enraptured every time. It's just a shame that there are hardly any DVDs or CDs available.
