Great tunes here! It was also instructive seeing how the nearest set kept taking too long over the basket and not leaving time for the second couple to do it!

Always a fun dance and I do understand how exuberance causes some dancers to get carried away, but some of these turns were lucky not to result in injury.

It's the only Scottish dance I remember how to do! My party piece when I've had a couple too many!! I did my high school years there and come the end of term/Christmas..for the disco/dance..we had to learn it...8-some reels.....Strip the Widows....(sorry..muso's joke) Willow...etc.. I had wonderful , amazing music teachers.......but when It came to dancing...that was left up to the P.E. Dept!!!! Boys on the left!...Girls on the right!..........we did what we were told to .........then............"Take a partner!!" There was a chaotic movement...like cockroaches scuttling out of sight when you come home late at night and switch the lights on. Some guys moved in like bees to pollen....and some of us flies ended up with shit. But, in some of the dances with the house lights up......we could swril and swirl around....swap partners..(???) and maybe..just maybe.....you could have your arm around the waist of Elizabeth xxxxx...or ..Vivien xxxxxxxx.....or Carol xxxxxxx , (out of bounds..her boyfriend was 19!!) Big League......oh the list could go on.......a brief encounter with that girl......a few stumbled steps, plukes(pimples) and bad breath...that was that!!! Good memories Thanks for posting. love and peace from Kaapstad.

Probably the nearest thing would be Scottish Country Dancing competitions at Festivals? Ceilidh dancing is a mix of the easier Country Dances, and ballroom-type couples dances. Edinburgh University Country Dancing Society starts you on the Ceilidh dances, and then when you're hooked, progresses to Country Dancing. (And Highland or Step, if you're into that).

I always wanted to learn it properly but some people say u just learn on the spot or not and thats what makes it so fun ? Born south of the border but lived in highlands 30 years finally started latin an ballroom classes its fun too its all good ide say lets hope the Scots english irish and welsh and cornish can retain our culture over the next 50 years ? I hope so weve all come through so much just to give it away ? Stay happy be close to nature and music
@HotScotchCeilidhBandRatho Жыл бұрын
Hello David, Yes most of these ceilidh dances are ones that you can learn on the spot. We normally call the the steps of the dances through beforehand at a ceilidh with a little walkthrough so everybody can join in enjoy themselves. Hope your'e enjoying your Ballroom classes.
@Lucien234-i2z11 ай бұрын
We do this in PE class at School, that's how we know the moves but you can learn on the spot, there is always someone in the crowd showing you what to do and some places will tell you the moves before hand or shout them out as the dance is happening.
@louisehogg8472Ай бұрын
Some Scottish Country Dancing groups will teach the ceilidh dances too. It's only the couples dances that AREN'T actually Scottish Country Dances. (They're more ballroom style. Loosely, very loosely! Lol)
