Cardboard characters, mundane plot, cliche dialogue, no suspense. The woeful music was more exciting than the Vauxhall Astra racing away at 40 mph. Gave up at 28 mins. Apart from that it was great! 😑

I can understand that. Even one of the main cast wrote a scathing piece on it in their memoir.

It's really a product of it's time as a cheaply produced BBC Drama - they produced a paperback book of the series which I have in my collection .

@@archivemediavault the problem is the whole series looks very poor quality even at 480P, bad enough for me not to download it. must be very hard to find a complete copy that is clear at 720p. they should re-release it on DVD complete. the DVD they put out before is missing alot of footage.

My pleasure. I'd wanted to see it since I rad about it in the mid 90s. Only maanged to get a copy of it a couple of years ago and thought it was great. One of my favourite heist films. I believe there are problems with who owns the distribtion rights over it.

I think in a way Frank is suspicious of Mrs Aird, and does not believe that Mark shot Austin it was Eva and sadly she came a cropper a nasty price to pay.

Thanks for posting this. Remember the lift shaft scene clearly from original transmission, so great to see the whole thing again after so long. You don’t have Hawksmoor from the same year by any chance?

Thank you, I quite enjoyed that! I think the lead guy made a good Rassendyl. Indeed, all the actors were good, and I liked the music too. I'd have preferred the final farewell in a more intimate setting, but still, quite good. That last shot was heart-rending..!

It is a good adaptation isn't it? Certainly better than the embarrassing Peter Sellers version. Malcolm Sinclair is a good Rasendyl, although he is always good. If you look at this role, his regualr role in Pie In THe Sky and his character in Foyle's War, you can see how he morphs into different chracters, without the need for heavy prosthetics and make-up. It's all through voice and performance alone.

Yes Peter Sellers did a Prisoner of Zenda in 1978 or 9, with a great cast, and it looks splendid, but overall is awful.
