Very true, hanging ten is a longboard rule, but there is so much more. Walking the board, backstepping and dancing along on a wave where every step is choreographed based on the timing, the waves, the wall of water in front and behind you. Longboarding is truly a distinguishable sport, identified by it's unique manner and difficulty. There will always be a place for longboarding, but when you get old, the shortboard eventually gets hung up to dry. Too hard to paddle at 60. Longboarding forever.

Cj nelson is amazing!! I have been bodyboarding for ten years now and I've charged into some big swell. My father has now converted me to longboarding and I must say nothing beats that feeling of standing on that nose and riding even the one foot swell. Longboarding is truly amazing

i have bodyboarded for 26 years , i have never had any inclination to stand up , as i prefer charging barrels that are otherwise too fast , or shallow for the local stand up chargers . BUT . . . i have recently converted to "the dark side" having had a run of 6 months of flat surf and always seeing guys out with their mals getting mad little waves that go on forever , and i tell you , it is like being born again , i have the same stoke as i once did as a grom and it is simply awesome !

@ftheGOP Malibu is VERY crowded so it makes it more difficult for newbies...better to learn on small uncrowded waves at another beach....

my god all I need is a juicy waist high longboard wave. PLEASE I beg. Im going to school at UNCW right now and the waves down here are not what I expected....I'll be the only log out on a little waist high day. So funny to see so many people short board on a small day 'pumping' the shit out of waves. D00D GET A LOG. but seriously UNCW is number 7 surf school and i've caught better waves at home in Rhode Island....longboard waves that is. I NEED IT
