I met Waylon briefly in October 1977 in Charlotte, NC. I had interviewed Hank Williams Jr. on his bus. A security guy told my friend and me that we’d better do something with our camera because Waylon’s security wouldn’t like it. He said we could put the cover on it. I stood backstage and looked up and there was Waylon beside me with a cigarette in his mouth. I said, “Hi Waylon!” He said, “Hey, hoss.” I told him I had interviewed Willie several times and asked if he’d do an interview. He said, “Nawww!” My friend with the camera got extremely excited and asked Waylon for a picture. Waylon said okay. My friend was nervously fumbling to get the cover off. Waylon looked at me and said, “Well, G D, tell your Buddy to hurry up before I change my mind.” I wish I had gotten in the photo with him. It’s very blurry. I asked Waylon something like, “Man, what was it like playing with Buddy Holly?” He answered, “ Man, it was great.” The interview with Hank more than compensated for the lack of one with Waylon. Those were fantastic years. There was nothing better than an All Access backstage pass. I even got on stage just a few feet from Willie at the microphone. I was standing beside fellow audience member Toy Caldwell of The Marshall Tucker Band. People coming up on stage kept pushing me further onto the stage and there I stood.

He was absolutely right to walk. A show's Production and Presentation should and must include timing. It's really poor Production and very disrespectful to any guest to do what this show did. It has nothing to do with stardom or ego or anything else, it's an issue of respect for an invited guest, and especially so in this case as timing was discussed and agreed prior to the show being broadcast.

He walked out of a concert I was at in the late 80's. He was opening for Hang Jr. Got halfway thorugh the first song (Dukes of Hazard theme song) and just quit and said "I love Hank and I love ya'll but I dont play for nobody who dont stand up when I play". And he left. Hank then came out about 30 minutes later and played an extra hour or so to make up for it!

Why did he care if his air time was cut short. Are the guests paid for every 5 minutes they are on the air?
