I frankly don’t care if the Canadian Armed Forces on the whole has dropped its grooming standards “because we now live in a modern world” which I think is a load of crap. That gold Sergeant with the long untidy hair in the Governor General’s Foot Guards forage cap looked absolutely unacceptable and unprofessional. Do remember you are a ceremonial unit in the capital and all eyes from around the world are on you and people WILL compare you with your more professional looking counterparts in the UK. I am frankly embarrassed to see this as a veteran.

I notice that they don't carry their arms in the same way as the Guards do in the UK, so there are some differences. I understand that Canadian Guardsmen have carried out guard duties in London, including a Guard's Regiment from Québec. The Mounties have also been on guard duty at Horseguards in London and it was a great success. Their presence was very much appreciated.
@WalkingAttractions

That's an insightful observation! It's true, the Canadian Guards do have some unique aspects compared to their UK counterparts. And yes, Canadian Guardsmen, including those from Québec, have indeed served guard duties in London, which has been a great honor. The presence of the Mounties at Horseguards is another fantastic example of the rich cultural exchange and mutual respect between the two countries. It's wonderful to hear how much their participation was appreciated. Thanks for sharing this great information!
@WintSong
@WintSong 4 ай бұрын
The difference in the way they hold their arms is due to the different rifles they use (or more specifically, a bullpup vs standard rifle). If you look up footage of British Guards before the 1980s, when they still used a standard style rifle instead of a bullpup, they would hold their arms the same way you see the Canadian guards do now. Basically when the Brits adopted the bullpup, they had to adjust the way they held their rifles, as a bullpup doesn't exactly conform to the standard way of holding a standard rifle.

Why do these guards have to wear British uniforms but don't have their Canadian uniforms?? Very boring, Canada doesn't seem to have anything that belongs to them.
@WalkingAttractions
@WalkingAttractions 6 ай бұрын
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! The guards' uniforms are indeed inspired by British military traditions, reflecting Canada's historical ties with the UK. However, Canada also has its own unique heritage and symbols, including distinct military uniforms used in other contexts. The choice of attire for certain ceremonies is a nod to history, but it doesn't diminish Canada's rich and diverse culture. I appreciate your perspective and hope you'll find other aspects of Canada's identity and heritage that resonate with you!

I grew up in Aylmer but have now lived in Nova Scotia for the past ten years. Whenever I'm feeling homesick, I put this video on and I feel like I'm out for a stroll in the same streets that I walked through for years growing up. They look exactly the way I remember them. A little correction for your description - Aylmer was amalgamated with Gatineau and Hull in 2002. In 1975, it was actually a different amalgamation of the three smaller towns of Aylmer, Lucerne and Deschenes, which created the Aylmer that I grew up in in the 90s. Both the 1975 and the 2002 amalgamations were very important events in Aylmer's history. Anyway, thank you for sharing your appreciation of my little gem of a hometown!
