This is one of Kai Sotto's better game in the NBL. I think his camp used this game as basis for their decision to let Kai declare for the 2022 NBA draft. I think they made a big mistake. This game proved that Kai wasn't NBA ready.

Bad choice not playing in the NBA summer league. That’s where young players shine against better talent and teams get interested and then you can choose who to sign with. No big man plays a starter role off the bat. Big men take a little longer to develop and do that is with a good NBA team like Denver, Golden State, Boston or even Toronto. This kid needs to change his agent.

very raw, needs to get stronger, i hope he gets drafted, if not i hope someone takes a chance on him to be the first filipino player to make it in the NBA
@electrospud92302 жыл бұрын
As a seven-footer having only 3 rebounds all game is really bad (with a plus minus of -9). He does not play to his strengths and is content to stay on the perimeter, he does not have the quickness or the lateral movement to compete at a high level in the NBA, heck he can't even dominate the Chinese center playing on the other side. If his goal is to be the first Filipino player to play in the NBA then yes he should just declare his intention to join the draft, join a bad team and play for a season with a team with garbage minutes and be out of the league after one season. BUT that should NOT be the goal, his goal should be to be the first Filipino NBA player to have a successful career in the NBA. I don't know who has been hyping him up and telling him he is ready to be an NBA player, but someone needs to seriously look him in the eye and tell him he is not ready. If he can't even dominate players in the NBL he's not going to miraculously do so with the more athletic, faster, and stronger NBA players. Stay in the NBL league for one or two seasons mate, work on your game, work on your conditioning, focus on impacting winning your teams games by playing to your strengths and be a rebounding monster on both sides of the court, and stay ready to play, it does not matter how many minutes you play so long as you make the most of the minutes you are given, put on more muscle and bulk so you don't get bullied by stronger guys working the paint, your height advantage becomes a liability if you get pushed out of the paint by smaller but stronger guys who play exclusively down low. I will give you an example if it's a choice between you a seven-footer and a six-nine center like Kevon Looney I'd pick Looney all day every day and twice on Sunday because his skillset is what is expected from a center. Can't even compare Sotto to Joel Embid or KAT if all he has going for him is his height and his youth at nineteen years of age. I get it Kai, you are young all you are interested in is scoring but a lot of players can score the basket, that doesn't make you special, if all you have is your height to fall back on, you are not going to go far. It's not a novelty to have a seven-footer score a three-point shot, Dwight Howard has done that more than once in his career heck even James Wiseman the number 2 overall pick has done it and he would probably bully you out of the paint if you face him. If you want your draft stock to be good mate you have to play to your strength, use your height, that thing can't be taught, be a ball hound and rebound the ball on both sides of the court, and work on your low post game wether that be a back to the basket or face-up game. (learn both) that's why you are not on the draft class list, at your current skill level your not going to be able to contribute to a team unless they are willing to have you train and work on your game as you play.

A lot of Filipinos won’t like it but it’s just the truth and it can be for good intentions. As a Filipino American I know the drastic difference with how Filipinos in America see things compared to Filipinos who live in the homeland. Hard to explain, but to keep it simple, Kai and his team have just made bad decisions in getting to the league and have massively skipped steps. First of all, Kai should’ve played in the NCAA for 3-4 years. It would’ve been the best for his development and he could’ve even got better exposure than playing oversees or even in the G-League. Then, I mean he never should’ve left the G-League Unite team for some trivial reason and declaring early is just another example of skipping steps. It’s a shame because in this video I see the talent and think he can be in this league in some capacity. I also do see the limitations and weaknesses and it would’ve been better for him to work on this in a more stable environment.
@ryanbeltran94132 жыл бұрын
@@maharlikan958 it hurts but there is truth if you look at context. Filipinos get too much with Pinoy pride and I say this as a Filipino. Sometimes you need to be critical, even to people you care or root for. Truth is if you watch a decent amount of NBA basketball and even NCAA in America, and it’s a different ball game than in the Philippines. There have been tons of players Kai size and they pan out with weaknesses. Kai has those weaknesses and people need to understand this. If they want Kai to make this league and be the best version possible, he can’t jjst expect to make it because he is the best hope for being the first Filipino born player to make the league and is 7ft3. That might get him drafted and make a team for a year but then what? If he doesn’t improve and stays the same then he will be out. I hope he makes the league, but you just can’t say this guy is even a strong second round pick. I see people even saying he is better than guys like Chet and it’s just over the top. It isn’t just annoying to people who know the game a bit more, but it honestly hurts Kai as well. The kid seems like a good kid with legit talent, but is pushed too much pressure and praise by Filipinos. Just don’t put too much expectations and just hope for the best. Even if he doesn’t make the NBA, the kid can be a good player in other leagues. If he makes a career in Europe or NBL, he can be so good at the international level.
