Interesting that EM is running. Not much heard about. Not forgetting 18.83.😮

As a schoolboy at nearby Worksop College at the end of term I used to catch the Pullman Master Cutler from Sheffield to Kings Cross at Retford. This would have been in the early 1960s.

Seminal layout, great vision from Roy Jackson and his team. Visited several times, always a gracious host. Great to see it’s I safe hands.

tHANK YOU VERY MUCH, I'll definitely give it a go. It would be usefull to explain where the "copper ties" should go or not in your experience. Tis program is on another league from anyrail and such. For the ones who lay down their own trcak is a must program to get on. Thanks again.

A stunning model! During the opening shots, I thought it was a full-size railway scene. The weathered brickwork on the tunnel is super-realistic - (I've never seen better.) The loco, too, is brilliantly weathered. The buildings are very convincing also. This is a great model railway - nom doubt about it! Thanks so much for. sharing.

Fantastic. Love the detail in everything, also the working signals. A lot of work has gone into this. Sound of the loco' banking up to Consett would have been great just add that bit more. Could watch for hours 🙂

Assume the station is a terminus? So why are there distant signals on the approach? Also the Ivatt should have a hooter not a whistle? Otherwise a very atmospheric video.

i love this layout, i watch it often, can i ask, what do you was for the pit props wagon loads ?

I worked at Brinnington Jct after T/Dale closed, but remember the station very well before it closed in 1967.The diagram and track circuiting is brilliant..the buildings on Portwood, superb detail.. all that is missing is the wonderful facade of the station, and the quirky footbridge over all the through roads..this is a great nostalgia trip, in model form, and congratulations, for creating such an amazing model..

Thank you very much for this. I had, wrongly, assumed Templot would be intuative, it's not, there again neither is it like a book with seven seals. The only disconcerting thing I found about this was the apparent "stuttering" inthe presentation. I will have to reload, and watch afain, and again, until it rubs off on me.

Thank you Phil for making this informative video. I have on three separate occasions tried to get my head around Templot without success until now. This video of this extraordinary suit of software has answered and shown me how this operate. I have a background in using AutoCAD and PCB design software but I have been struggling with the intricacies of the layout procedure. All credit to Martin for developing Templot. 👍

Very impressed with model on youtube l am in the process of building a oo gauge model of Tiviot Dale I am at about the same build level as the model featured only I have built the station buildings to up and down lines. I don' t remember the colour light signal for the down platform exit could never find evidence of this signal, their must have been something controlling this exit though

I live in Redford and it actually looked like this layout in the 1950s. now I wish it wasn't just 2 platforms now

Excellent lecture. One minor observation, the leading set at 20:18 is not a 119, I believe it’s a class 120?

Love this layout it's a favourite by far, although I'm modelling suburban Glasgow the time period and ran down city atmosphere are very similar but what I really like is the fact that this is good old DC and is more about quality modelling than needless bells and whistles which are all very well but the novelty can wear off. Hornsey is a prime example of a quality layout that'll hold interest and is fascinating to watch, keep it up 👍

... Could sit and watch this for hours... Another rival to Tom Harland's S4 'Bramblewick'. The variety of stock and scenery is inspirational, most of all the change from 01 to 9F on the Consett iron ore traffic. Like the allotments ...

Although I'm a OO modeller, I think this layout knocks the spots of much of what I've seen at exhibitions. I'd say it's a toss between 'Bramblewick' and 'Retford' for sheer scale and observation. This is definitely a 10/10.

Wonderful layout, brings back so many memories for me, as a young lad and train spotter living in Worksop, i was lucky enough to get a ride from there to Retford with the driver and fireman in the Mallard, 1962. very well explained and filmed, its a credit to you all there, Cheers from Australia.

Very nice, indeed. What else could the musical accompaniment be but Coronation Scot. Just the right tone. The detail of EM gauge layouts is very impressive: rodding runs, even supplied with comp. blocks, is particularly satisfying. Thank you for posting this. It's an encouragement for my pursuing a layout in EM having now retired from a career in railways. Oh, but where to start!
