you can only loop ONE instrument and then drums. and then play over it. Its not like a real looper where you can keep making layers. still cool though! great keyboard

@@gothickah0 click the drum bank, then hit the Arpeggio button. The display shows "Aon". Then hold down the Arp Hold button and hit any note on the piano. The drums will begin. To turn them off, hit the Arpeggio button again.

I remember when the portasounds came out I would put mine in channel 2 in my ɓassman 70 amp my guitar player would go in channel one and I would go in the bass guitar side. We would do gospel music and some jazz in some small halls. And people were always surprised by how good it sounds

nice job! I am a professional musician whose guilty pleasure is maximizing the use of small/inexpensive keyboards. Among my collection of instruments of all brands and categories is this PSS-A50 as well as the "arranger" PSS-F30. I think you've done a fantastic job explaining and demonstrating your workflow. It's an amazing machine for $100. It blows the Casios out of the water. Just the loop recorder alone sets this keyboard apart.

I plug in the keyboard from the headphones jack to a small personal size guitar amplifier, (15 watt size), and record the video and audio just from my cellphone. I don't use a computer or a DAW for this. This lo-fi method works well for me. I'm using batteries to power the keyboard. I set the volume at 11 on the keyboard. If you are getting a buzz, try using batteries instead of USB.

The Yamaha PSS A50 can layer up to 3 instruments, with some constraints. Here, the player use the arpeggiator function to have the percussion, and play piano over that. You can even record a sequence and play it as a loop, use the arpeggiator to layer one instrument over it, and play over all that.

I have yet to explore that side of this keyboard. I'm starting to use the Arpeggiator to play some of the Trance/Rave/House songs that have a super fast lead, but I haven't used it to create a background yet. Thanks for the tip.

This is epic. Makes me smile in admiration. I have a question: I could not connect my A50 via headphone hole to the PA at the local pub. Do I need to get a pre-amp?

If the PA can plug in an instrument like a guitar or keyboard, then use that jack on the PA. I use my Headphone jack to plug into a standard music amplifier just like an instrument. If you are plugging it into the PA as an Ipod, or into the microphone inputs, then plug it into the input jacks like a keyboard or guitar, (different impedance). You might have to have some special cables created because of the mini-plug that the A50 uses.

Is possible to records only one so two voices and it has only on slot in memory, and no way to record layer above ? It’s really sad thing

No, there is no way to layer two instruments or split the keyboard. This is a toy keyboard keep in mind. For children. Only costs $100. If you want to layer sounds together, look to spend around $800 - 1000 on a keyboard.

Bought one this Christmas (89 EUR brand new), as a total beginner, so I can practice piano, improvisation and learn MIDI. It's perfect in that role ! My flow to build a song is to record a backing track, use the "arp hold" function to overlay one of the built-in beat, and play over that : 3 instruments in parallel. Didn't know about the loop functionality, very useful tip !
