Thank you, Pastor Mike, for preparing this sermon and delivering your message so clearly and articulately. I have a question about a statement you make at 4:45, “…rather, we await God when *all* our resources have been thoroughly spent”. Here, as I understand it, you are giving a definition of what it means “to wait on God”. This definition seems to imply that our mandate to wait on God is _not_ applicable until *all* our resources have been “thoroughly spent”. Is this what you meant to say?

Dear ND, Thank you for bringing this up, and asking for clarity. The imperatives of God's word are never conditioned upon us being "ready" to obey. "Wait on the Lord" is a command as is "Repent and believe the gospel." Both are expected. Naturally, though, and so often His commands meet us when we are most desperate for His help. When the sinner, like the prodigal son, comes to the end of himself, he is more inclined to see his need. Waiting upon the Lord appears to be similar. For example, when we see the prosperity of the wicked, we are told not to envy, but to wait upon God (Ps 37). I hope this is helpful and thank you again for listening. Mike

Greetings Pastor Chandler: Your understanding of "2 Corinthians13:5" is not correct. This verse is not saying that every believer needs to examine themselves to see whether they are in the faith, verse 2 Corinthians13:3 explains that: 2 Corinthians13:3 3 Since ye seek a proof of Christ speaking in me, which to you-ward is not weak, but is mighty in you. 2 Corinthians13:5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? Only the group of believers who had their faith corrupted "by false teachers" to an extent that they challenged Paul's apostleship, need to examine themselves. Paul is saying that the proof of his apostleship is in them since he brought them to faith in Christ and their faith in Christ is mighty in them.

Thank you for your reply, It is always good and healthy for Christians to evaluate the quality of their profession of faith. 1 John was written for this express purpose (1 John 5:13) and 2 Peter urges his readers to add virtue to their faith to add assurance (2 Pet 1:10-11). As for the context of 2 Corinthians, you are correct, in as much as the problem some of the members had was questioning Paul's apostleship. His point is that if his apostleship is doubtful, then so is their faith. Since they had become new creations (2 Cor 5:17) through the apostle's preaching, it is unlikely their neither their faith nor his ministry was false. Nonetheless, the NT letters regularly challenge us to examine ourselves and in principle, 2 Corinthians 13:5 is applicable. - Mike

I mean no disrespect to this teacher but the problem that I have with this teaching or any pre-millennial teaching is that in your concept of the restoration the Millennium that you speak of will come to an end then my question becomes what happens after that no you're wrong about the lion laying down with the lamb being part of the millennium that is part of the restoration of all things our hope is not a millennium that comes to an end with a rebellion at the end of it our hope is an eternal Resurrection in which Christ Reigns end to quote revelation and he shall reign forever and ever I cannot be a premillennialist because I believe that when Christ comes as king he is here for good

Thank you for responding Steven. Yes, when Christ comes to reign, He will reign "here for good," finally crushing all rebellion. This is the teaching of the "then...when...till" language of 1 Corinthians 15:24-28, the fulfillment of which is prophesied in Revelation 19:11-20:15.

For Greek students, forgive my mistaken parsing of the phrase "it is written" (Gk. γέγραπται). This is a perfect passive indicative 3rd person singular of the verb meaning "I write" (Gk. γράφω). The meaning, as I correctly explained, is used of those things which stand written in the sacred books of the OT. Thank you!
