Sorry bud, I also love the spirit of the West being a part of the games, and it was a very charitable move on MSU to donate the money for the band to travel with the Griz. Sadly I doubt Seth Bodnar is a watcher of my channel.

Go slow, make sure you wear PFDs (life jackets) and be aware of weather conditions in your area. Like all inflatable boats they can be difficult to handle in high winds, just watch for storms and tide changes. It's a solid boat that has brought me many years of enjoyment.

Sweet! Love all of these creeky/low water IK videos. Where is Spruce Creek exactly? Can’t seem to find it on American White water or elsewhere…
@montanamatt
@montanamatt 2 жыл бұрын
Evan, the problem is there is no Exact take out or put in on most of these runs. I'm also apprehensive to put these runs on American Whitewater. Since hazards and water levels change in these creeks so much it's almost impossible to give good info, I'd hate for someone to get hurt out in these remote places. With that being said Spruce Creek is hard to find, at some point it merges with Brushy Fork Creek just south of the MT border. 46°36'17.4"N 114°24'39.1"W (this is just how to find the creek) I will update you with a approx put in and take out Be aware there is at least one very large mandatory portage along a waterfall on a high ridge. I know we were talking about doing this run again soon so there may be a chance for u to hop on with us if ur interested.

Hi Matt. Did you have the bailing valves open here and how well do they work? Also, would you say the 420X is ok for single-person use on open water too?
@montanamatt
@montanamatt 2 жыл бұрын
For rivers you'll always want the drains OPEN. Then slide the caps under the floor so the drains are unobstructed. They work well, you'll bathtub in huge rapids but it drains fast. For lakes or the Ocean you'll want them CLOSED and the skeg for better handling. Open water it handles well, just be aware it can be harder to handle in high winds or chop unless you've got some weight in it.

Matt - I took your advice and sat forward in the 420X for a solo trip on the Upper Colorado River. Based on water levels it was only running at Class II-III. I was really surprised how well the boat handled on both the flat sections and in the rapids given its overall length. I am 6'5" and found this much more stable than the smaller rental inflatables that I have paddled on similar water.

Matt, my wife and I paddle the 420X tandem up to Class III. I see you are doing some decent rapids in that boat solo. I have been considering getting a Sea Eagle 300X for some solo paddling but I am not sure whether I should just use the 420X that I already have. Thoughts?
@montanamatt
@montanamatt 2 жыл бұрын
It really depends on how what you want out of your boating experiences. I like the big 420 for its stability, it can take monster hits, but if you get caught out of position and sideways thats where I get flipped usually. I like the 420 for big rivers, but I also bought a smaller ducky for creeks which while being very quick and agile, cannot take the hits the 420x can. I've shifted my solo paddling position in the 420 very far forward, so my weight is in the front of the boat giving me more drive/weight/power for bow hits, the boat will also track better. If you have a local boating shop can demo/rent a smaller IK and get a feel for the experience before making a decision

@@montanamatt I appreciate the response. I am spending the summer in Colorado and taking the 420X and my Dagger Torrent. I am hoping to use both on some Class II-III paddles. It should give me a chance to try out the 420X solo a bit before jumping into something. Also, I was looking into an Aire Lynx 1 but opted out due to price and availability. I think I'll just stick with Sea Eagle stuff.

I took out the inflatable seats and use kayaking high back seats from Seattle sports,I believe the newer Sea-eagles have the new style seats as a option and they do sell them from their website. I also put in 4 D-rings for thigh straps. Aire,NRS, and sea eagle all sell thigh straps and D-Rings. Just make sure that they are not too tight, you want them to slip off easily so they are not a entrapment hazard.
