It's more like a splitting maw except these were for splitting the tree length wise down the middle the would use a couple and hammer them in until it split the tree into two long halfs

Personally I would have done a few things differently. First I would have ground the top of the handle pins so I could remove the original handles without damaging them. Second I wouldn’t have removed the original makers mark by over sanding the knife and left the history intact while spending my energy on the sharping process. 3 if the handles needed replacing I would have used the originals as a perfect template for historical accuracy. I did enjoy the video and look forward to seeing more.
