This has got to be one of the greatest KZbin videos of all time. You come here the first time for slow motion or yoyo tricks. You come back over and over for the sheer art form that the entire video is. I don't how it happened, but it did, and this video is legendary.
@DazedPhasesofLazerbeamsАй бұрын
I completely agree. I remember watching this when it first came out and it was like perfect. The music, the tricks, the back drop, the slomo. Its all done so well. I have to come back to it every so often because there is still nothing like it. Biggest mic drop ever.

How did you decide the frame rate? You decide and set that before? Or shoot as fast as you can, then in post, decide the frame rate? Very epic shots by the way! If I had access to a high speed camera, I'd be blowing up a d breaking stuff all the time!... (Well, more than I already do, just because it's fun, lol) You have suggestion for what the entry level camera needed to start doing high speed of slower things than explosions?

I love these. Don't get me wrong, analyzing the details and breaking down the science to better appreciate the awesomeness of what we're seeing is a favorite past time (and why i love the slo mo guys so much), but sometimes i just want to absorb awesome shots of beautiful destruction. Throw in fun music and this is dynamite!

hmmm. wouldn't you get diagonal "lines" if you hung up a screen and only attached the corners...? e.g. not due to the "intersections" ... maybe :o)
@marcusfromsweden4 ай бұрын
as in the lines (in the cross) are pointing towards the directions of the "most secured points" or "the direction where the strain of the screen/mesh is higher, where the higher strain causes that part of the screen to move faster and thus creating the cross.
@BeyondSlowMotion4 ай бұрын
There are a few parts to that. Bare in mind this is based on my observations and I haven’t directly done a controlled test on it. There’s room for error. A - yes the tension will make a difference. B - the elasticity of the lines will change how fast energy is transferred and depending on the level of tension at the corners that might change how fast the energy would travel in which direction C - the material also makes a difference. Imagine the vertical lines being metal and the horizontal lines being yarn. The metal would transfer energy at a vastly higher speed than the yarn which would tend to diffuse energy rather than disperse it. In a similar sense, how heavily your corner attachment example would affect the shape would also depend on the material and how it either transmits or disperses energy. Honestly I am not sure what the exact equilibrium would be. Would be a fun experiment! I don’t have the time/resource at the moment to test it out tho.

I wonder if his brain is wired different, or he's just incredibly hard working at the skill? His ability to recover bad throw ins impresses me even more than his juggling.

Maybe, juggling is definitely a tough skill to learn though. After a few years of casual practice I was able to do 4 balls *sometimes*, but having not practiced in forever I struggle with even the basic 3 ball juggle lol.

Gosh did that tree survive?
@BeyondSlowMotion4 ай бұрын
Yup! Most of the intense heat was against the wooden board. Also, in healthy forest, small wildfires aren’t uncommon. Bigger trees (so long as they are healthy and not completely parched) are reasonably resilient to occasional fires as long as they don’t get too big. This is like the tree equivalent of accidentally touching a hot frying pan while cooking. It had also rained a good bit around the time we filmed.

Great video. Sad about Dianna (Physics Girl) tho, huh? I hope she pulls through that.
@riuphane4 ай бұрын
Fun to get into the science and see it practically. Thanks for the interest and for sharing! What was the delay in getting this one made, if I may ask? Also strange to hear you reference Dianna so long after she fell ill. Just weird how many old clips and such are resurfacing or just getting edited. Sucks she's still suffering, but it's been nice to hear about her recovery and know she's still going!

It’s a long story, but I had to take a 5 year break for health reasons. Which is a story I’ll have to save for another time, but in the meantime my channel basically dwindled down & my Phantom camera broke. I have been wanting to get moving on this channel again, but have a couple challenges. One is access to a fast enough camera, the other is that KZbin has told me that if I don’t get watch time up in the next couple weeks they are gonna remove me from the partner program. So right now I am going through my old videos and taking the ones that didn’t get much viewership, then re-editing them to optimize them a bit better for the current KZbin meta. Since Diana helped me with information on this segment, I didn’t wanna make the video without crediting her. Hope that helps. In positive news there’s a strong chance I will have a new high-speed camera soon which will mean brand new content that isn’t re-edited. I also have a stack of a few videos that I have filmed in preparation for a whole new season of content. One of which is a collaboration with the NASA museum which I am excited to share.
