This is how I felt when I ate a box of Cracker Jacks a year or two ago, and learned that they've replaced the toy inside with a link to a website with some games. Among them was a mathematically perfect Connect 4 bot. Losing to it several times led me down a rabbit hole of solved games, and I only managed to eke out a win with a step-by-step guide.

How much did you need to spend on delta flights to get all this footage?

There was a recent FAA advisory that if the total ELO on a given Delta flight is in excess of 10K, it could tax the navigation computers sufficiently to trigger a flight error condition. Of course it would be worth it if you were flying alone, but please have consideration for the dullards around you.

Old man in across the isle just crushed the delta bot. I dint see which one, and I only watched the end of the end game, but he had 3 pawns, a promoted queen, and a bishop (maybe promoted). Delta bot only had its king.

I recently had a 6 hour flight and after watching a movie I was still awake so I went to the games section and chose chess. I chose easy mode and proceeded to lose about 30 times in a row without even coming close to winning. That’s when I noticed the guy next to me paying attention to how badly I was losing so I closed the game with embarrassment. I like to consider myself proficient at chess and that was a very humbling experience.

Pretty sure the people playing this the most on a Delta flight are kids who then learn just how much a dumb computer is able to obliterate them in this game. The adults are too busy either demanding other people's seats and bullying them or making AITA posts about whether or not they should have given the offender their seat and consent to let them kidnap their kid.

I had this experience recently playing solitaire on a g3 iMac running macOS 9.2. I grew up with windows solitaire and my confidence was high, the Mac version was infuriating! It literally sets you up to stall with 3 cards hidden 😡

For all we know this is an old engine tuned to be bad by having a low time to think. As the hardware it runs on got better, it went from bad to stupid strong. We have seen this in videogames, where settinga for 1986 lead to impossible oin a modern PC. 7th guest had an easy little Reversi which, just 3 years after release, was quite tough. Today humans only beat it by asking a more modern engine for help, with more time too. You basically need perfect play

Finally this is getting some attention. Every delta flight I've tried to beat this bot with no success. I'm no master, but as a 1600 rated player, I feel immense shame as my girlfriend watches me lose every single game to the "easy" bot

Supposing you got a running start? Right now you're calculating the minimum escape velocity given that you jump straight upwards and would fall straight back down again I reckon if you got a good sprint on before you jumped, you'd easily reach an orbital velocity and escape the asteroid with the same effort per leg extension it took to jump. I think about it like, the force put into the ground is there for as long as your feet are in contact with it and your legs are extending But when you run, you have the cumulative momentum of all the previous leg extensions behind you Furthermore, this is just a hunch but I bet you can reach some pretty extreme speeds in a low gravity environment. Either from repeatedly jumping with forward momentum like the hulk, or hopping like astronauts do, or even skipping along like a two-legged gallop - you minimise your friction with the ground because your foot doesn't touch it for as long. Compare and contrast pushing off on a skateboard or a scooter

I am rated 1850 FIDE (2200 rapid on lichess) and lost 5 games in a row against delta bot, but I was pretty drunk so put an asterisk next to my data.

You obviously don’t know much about chess. First, there’s your terrible selection of bots: * Martin doesn’t play like a typical beginner would - and it’s not even designed to do so, but merely to play completely ridiculously irrationally. That doesn’t mean that a complete beginner would just completely destroy Martin - but such person would make different mistakes. * A bot on a commercial airline is certainly not targeting grandmasters and world champions. So you’re already wasting quite a bit of time with those. Then, a human is not going to find mate in 5+, let alone a casual player on an airplane. The rest of your video is useless as well as it would take multiple pauses at slow speed to follow along. You absolutely don’t need to be an expert of any kind to make a chess video - but record it in a way where your viewer can at least follow the moves. I was quite curious about this, but moving pieces around at this speed just doesn’t do it.

I went to italy over the summer and on my flight there i played the bot once and won and didn't think much of it. on my way back i kept playing the delta bot over and over because it was like someone cranked it to overdrive i swear

I couldn't sleep on my flight back from Greece this summer, so I played this damned delta chess game delirious from exhaustion like 20 times in a row increasingly annoyed I was getting stomped by the "easy" setting. Glad this videos vindicated me by proving I wouldve lost even if well rested.

I'm so glad it wasn't just me being bad at chess. I mean, I am bad at chess, but now I have an excuse for my flights.

1800 here, and i thought i was crazy when I lost 4 in a row, marked it up to being a 630 flight, but maybe it wasnt that.... I guess i feel a little better now

Boeing has a chess bot that is missing a few pieces.

This almost makes me want to take a Delta flight. I was just on an Aer Lingus transatlantic, and their chess bot on “hard” was garbage. I’m not good in the first place, was hella drunk and blundering my ass off, but always managed to rally; its endgame was just so godawful that I could always swindle at least a draw.

Hahahah I am so glad I found this video. I too have been wrecked "easy" Delta bot. I am not a particularly strong player, but knew it had to be more than just altitude resulting in such an extreme mismatch.
