The brake system is open to moisture at the fluid reservoir. Contrary to popular belief it is not sealed air tight. If it was it would be a vacuum in the reservoir as the brake pads wore down and the pistons in your brake calipers protruded further. So as the the fluid level drops in your reservoir as the pads wear. That means more air and so moisture gets in. That's on top of all the driving in rain etc. So regardless of mileage your fluid does simply age. Just as it does in a bottle of fluid left on the shelf after opening and despite screwing the cap on tightly. A cheap brake vacuum is a syringe, which you can buy at a chemist. That and some 5mm clear vinyl hose.

Windscreen adhesive, use a good quality type like 3M 08609 Window Weld or Sikaflex 268 which is used on railway windows. I've used them on motorcycle boots.

Have you tried using any PVA glues at all? How do they go for flexibility?
@irefusetopay24 күн бұрын
Not on shoes, but I expect PVA is better for paper and wood. The bond may not be as strong as contact cement.

What's the heating for some youtuber apply and what if you don't have heatgun, why dont just stick them after the 5 minutes dry period? Is PU adhesive different instructions compare to a common rubber based contact cement where they just tell you to contact them after 5 minutes?
@irefusetopayАй бұрын
Following manufacturers recommendations is the best approach I would suggest. PU glue is completely different, its the ultimate glue to use with the right activators.
@NetvoTVАй бұрын
@@irefusetopay hi, thanks for reply, yeah but the instruction by the manufacturer isn't clear themselves, they didn't say wait for how long and I contacted their customer service and they say it's the same as rubber contact cement,vis that true because what I found is rubber contact cement doesn't needs heatgun and just wait and stick, PU glue it seem like need heatgun? But I don't have heatgun, what to do?
@irefusetopayАй бұрын
Use a hair dryer. As a starting point, heat it to 50 to 60 degrees Celsius. For PU glues, I queried a seller and was told to heat to 60 degrees. Good luck.
@NetvoTVАй бұрын
@@irefusetopay i see, but is heating neccessary at all and not just glue it like rubber based contact cement where you just stick them together after wait for 5 minutes for the solvent to evaporate?
@sylas9762Ай бұрын
I heard that to apply 2nd layer of adhesive, I need to reactive it by applying heat to it, and the heat from hair dryer might be sufficient enough. But that also lead to another problem, I think, if we live and walking under scorching sun or hot and humid weather like asia, desert,... where it can get to more than 40 degree celsius or even 50 to 60 degree celsius, it might cause the glue on the shoes to reactivate and un-bonding the outsole of the shoes.
@irefusetopayАй бұрын
Hi there, yes I have seen cobblers use heat guns to reactivate glues, though it makes me wonder the reason they do so. I would always follow the glue instructions from its manufacturer.

@@irefusetopay So I am working on some shoes now, I just put on one good coat on each surface. So do both surfaces need to completely dry before adding another coat to both surfaces?
@sylas9762Ай бұрын
@@irefusetopay yes. But though I dont know the temperature threshold of these glues. And the part that scare me the most is one day I walk outdoor, couples km later my shoes completely falling apart. You might be able to use a mild solvent to degrease the leather or sand off the top layer with a sandpaper, or both. Good luck

Many videos say to use "leather filler", but is it a urethane, silicone, acrylic? None ever state what type of glue it is.

Good question Fred, the one I have does not state the material but the texture reminds me of modified acryllic fillers.

The problem is, there are so many types that say "leather filler", and they aren't all the same, so its hard to figure which is best,especially since they aren't exactly cheap. I live in an expensive country😬, and there are no cobblers anywhere near.
