I have used construcion adhesive like “Liquid Nails” and they lasted surprisingly well.
@rossbarber65037 күн бұрын
I just came across this a year after you posted, RTV is a blue colored liquid gasket maker which may stand out in shoe repair. I have used it in several industrial settings such as seals for drive motors in forklifts, and its is a very very strong and plyable adhesive, to the point i had to use a lot of brute force, my body weight and then some to get the seal to break. I do not know how it works as an adhesive for different materials other than metal to metal, but it cures fast and may work in a pinch.

For the China folks, what is shoe cement in Chinese? I bought 2 different brands, both are water clear and according to the listing shoe glue.

China folks here :) There are many types of shoe cement as you know, the clear ones are probably PU glue. 鞋胶is the word but not sure if it's gotta help much.

Depends, if gluing fabric, also consider PU glue. Barge cement leaves yellow residual which you also need to be careful about. Cheers

haha the nike sneakers that I wore for 7+ years circa 2007-2014 the glue never failed me, and I ran it in the snow, rain, gravel, mud, heated pavement; the out sole eventually worn out so much that it is probably not healthy to keep wearing them, the new ones don't seems to last as long, the sole or the upper usually fall apart way before the cement glue

I have used Weldwood contact cement on work boot soles with great success over the years. Right now I am still using a pair of Schmidt brand work boots from Tractor Supply bought in year 2011 and now they are still wearable in 2024. I need some fresh glue to do it one more time. I have used small "C" clamps to hold it together overnight or even for a few days. These repairs normally last for at least a few years before having to be done again. There you go. Weldwood contact cement and C clamps.

Barge Cement, Boot Fix Glue, Shoe Goo, Gear Aid Aquaseal are ones i use. Barge Cement is a contact cement. Boot Fix Glue is a CA glue. Shoe Goo and Aquaseal are silicones, I believe. Definitely need the right glue for the right application. Shoe Goo is touted by some as a miracle, but it's hype exceeds it's deliverable. Works pretty good to repair cracks and tears in the exterior.

I don't know if Nike makes it public their glue suppliers. In general, a polyurethane glue is what you need for runners. It's a bit of a rabbit hole! I'll make a video about PU glue soon.

Question. At 4.02 you say add a second coat before first coat is dry. Then at 6.56 you say the glue has to dry before the second coat. Please could you advise when to do which method?
@irefusetopayАй бұрын
Well observed there. The second coat is applied when 1st coat just dries to the touch. Don't wait until 1st coat completely dries out before applying.

I’ve seen people using rubber cement with super glue to instantly bond the layers. Does this count for the needed clamping pressure?

Anything glue that requires time to cure should be used with clamps/ rubber bands etc. I'm not a fan of super glue in case you are wondering. Watch my other video about shoe glue, and you'll see why. Cheers

As someone who loves shoes, thrifts them, and spent a good amount of time in the most delicate athletic shoes (ie. ballet pointe shoes), the best advice I can pass on about making sure shoes last is to buy 2 pairs of your everyday day shoes so you can alternate wearing them and to use something to help them keep their shape/dry them out on the days they’re not being worn (eg. Crumpled up tissue paper, bag of cedar chips, etc.). Pointe shoes made of traditional materials (ie. mostly layers of paper and glue) can cost well over $100USD per pair and we might get 10 hours out of them so many of those of us that can get multiple pairs to rotate so they don’t break down as quickly. For at least the last decade of my life, I have not worn the same pair of shoes two days in a row. The only shoes that have ever “broken are ones that I have thrifted and even then, they have all broken around the same place on the same foot so I think that foot is just strong 😅 The outsides of your shoes will wear down faster if the body of the shoe isn’t providing adequate support. For most non-labor shoes (ie. shoes not meant to protect your feet from serious injury), they will break down incredibly fast if you wear them every day and don’t give them a chance to dry out properly. Shoes that are designed to last by nature of being for labor, like traditional cowboy boots made from mostly traditional materials that were designed to be worn and worked in daily, require significant break-in time and effort that our everyday shoes do not. Since most podiatrists will tell you not to use your feet to break in shoes, I think they would also tell you to opt for the kinds of shoes not meant to last so long, even if shoes like Redwings and Birkenstocks are always going to have their fans

The problem with Ethiopian beans are the quake beans. They are beans that aren’t fully matured on a fully matured crop. They can’t roast right so they end up lighter colored and they affect the taste. Just remove the light colored ones those are the quakes. It’s not that they didn’t roast uneven it’s just those quakes can’t develop right.
@irefusetopay2 ай бұрын
Interesting fact, thanks. As you see, my roasting method is quite primitive, the beans always have uneven colors to some extent. I guess my pallets need to be more sophisticated to pick up the notes of underdeveloped beans. I'll pay greater attention to the taste tomorrow morning.
