I love this clip for two big reasons: It shows us just how well all these different components (drums, bass, guitars, vocals) mix so well together to create the final, magical song, and Krist explaining the mindset behind the band (or at least Kurt) in channeling their influences of both punk and pop by creating songs that were catchy and got people listening, but still had the heaviness driving them. And of course, it's also cool to watch Butch show us the recording magic and why he did what he did.

The drums sound a lot punchier here for some reason. I wonder why

This is so badass. This guy rules. I always wondered why the vocals sounded so cool on this song and many others by Nirvana I love it. Wondered my whole life lol funny how things come around full circle. I'm not a big music production head but I really appreciate it and i know a little bit..

Dave Grohl was clearly the magic ingredient here. Yeah they could have released this album with Chad Channing and it would probably have been a cult classic, but Dave Grohl elevated the band and made them a phenomenon. Not downplaying Kurt’s songwriting or Butch’s production, just saying Dave really rounded the band out. Kurt really lucked out when he poached Dave from Scream. Always loved his harmonies in the chorus too. If you listen to the version of In Bloom with Chad playing drums and no backing vocals, you can really hear that something important is missing.

Wish there was a recording of the song without the doubled vocals. Don’t get me wrong, the double sounds amazing but those single tracked vocals are so raw

Incestiside was an album more like with the Kurt's sound. Imagine nevermind with an incestiside sound. Kurt just wanted to record one voice, one guitar and done. Pretty punk recipe.

It always baffled me how Kurt always gets these “such Great Songwriting” credentials, but to me it was always just some meaningless ramblings of a junkie. Sheesh the song “rape me” was supposed to be a big slapping hint for people to stop trying to find some deep philosophical meaning to his lyrical scribblings.

When I heard this record in 1991, I thought, is this heavy? Is this punk? Is this pop? Well, nevermind, I like it.

This song is so beautifully crafted. All of Nirvana's songs are. Nirvana 100% deserved (and still does) all of the love they got back then and I hope Kurt realized that when he was alive!!

For the life of me I cannot stand Charles Cross. Pretentious, psuedo-intellectual dork gets status and a career by towing the company line for CLove, regurgitating exploitive bullshit and trite, sophomoric anecdotes and metaphors. 🤮
