you don't have to avoid June, July and August to escape "extreme heat" it's Scandinavia!, it can get hot sometimes in the summer in the southern parts but we don't really suffer extreme heat much, you can however avoid extreme tourism in the big cities if you visit during April-may or late August-Oct. , I would say May or September is usually the best if you dont want it to be could and wan't to avoid crowds certain places
