It is 2024 and I am hearing this 2016 performance for the first time....and I am really impressed with his overall performance. His understanding of musical form is excellent, and he pays great attention to phrasing and accents. However, I felt that the ballads should have been played first as he was warming up to the stage. Due to the cold start, his ballads lacked a warm tone and poignancy. The fast passages in the ballads had clashing chords that sounded a bit harsh and cold. Although he skillfully played through the ballad pieces, it sounded, for the most part, in a very controlled manner rather than a natural flow. However, he really came into his own in the preludes set, which I think should have been played first. His preludes were outstanding, the best and most enjoyable rendition I've heard. His preludes playing confirmed to me a master Chopin player.
