So fascinating and inspiring. Listening to the voice of the man he is breaking through with authority and reassurance leaves me hopeful we will be blessed with this voice of inspiration for many years to come!!

...there are tons of pretty horrible stuff on YT hailed in an obscene manner... This demo, in my view, is fairly decent. There is license taken, but, overall, the figure is convincing. The most difficult part here is, in my opinion, the knee, which was rendered with a remarkable economy of means. I would criticize two things: the premature insistence on line quality instead of structure (the pose became static compared to the real thing), and the uneven approach of the drawing: detailed areas next to virgin paper surface...

Looks like your using hog filbert? Or something else? Love the economy of strokes and paint applied.

Nearly all the people commenting here dont know, or understand, artist materials. This is the most traditional preparation of linen painting canvas on all of KZbin. Before all the modern art supply companies & factories, this is exactly how it was done.

@@sharonweik4156 sorry for being rude on that comment.. I know what you mean of beginners don't comprehend the more pictorial process. but I disagree, because I see a lot of experienced artists who also doesn't understand or doesn't like the more artistic non linear process..

So we blur the nipples in the photo but show them in the painting. Does that mean we relegate the painting as unimportant and non representational? Have we become that idiotic about the human body? Sorry, but it just distracted from the whole lesson and I'm an artist.

It is difficult to watch this type of demonstration video. I say that because, despite what typical audience members think they see happening, I as a seasoned painter just see one amateurish technique and result after another. We can stipulate that is is not a simple matter to achieve a good painting in just 20 or 30 minutes. But I notice that in practically all such demonstrations the artist likes to be sure to plaster on those shiny white highlights early on! Immediate gratification. (I would probably avoid such bright highlights altogether, even in the finished work.) But to me, this and many other practices such as jumping into some areas of impasto early on, are hallmarks of producing a crowd-pleasing but actually not very good painting.

Watching how he steadies his painting hand with his left. I have problems with essential tremors that I usually rely on a mahlstick to overcome when they present my own steadieness issues. Found this very helpful . . . not to mention simply watching him paint. Wonderful.

I can see as it was live the photographer was limited with the light conditions they had to film this live BUT surely they must have watched it and seen it was totally useless for putting on here as you can't see anything that will allow you to copy or learn from doing so.
