So you're basically retelling the plot and calling that an analysis? Try this: a reconstruction of the villain's Plan - and your opinion of this movie will change dramatically.

To new, Skyfall feels closest to the original James Bond books in spirit. In the books, Fleming was trying to deconstruct and deglamorize the spy genre, and Bond is unsympathetic by nature. His trauma is pretty open for the world to see.

Do the writers actually think this way when writing a screenplay?

Love this film but I have to be reminded by other fans that Bond failed in his mission (to protect M). How this fits in with the structure, I am not sure but, other than the crying, we see no consequences for this failure. Still, having said that, number 2 in my Bond list. Love it

Thanks for taking the time to analyse this movie. I have lodged at the South end of Glencoe a few times. There was always fresh tales of dead mountaineers. In one particular case it was three instructors who never made it back to my lodge after a fall at buachaille etive mor. The pyramid mountain. Sublime, beautiful and deadly. Just like Bond. Did Sam Mendez intend the reflection? Perhaps it's not important when you consider the depth of history around those parts of Scotland. Ironically, even though Fleming resisted Connery in the role. There's a road up there that's been renamed Skyfall Pass or something. The mountains do not care about that, or expert mountaineers or anyone. QED. Cheers.

Criag deserved so much better than *No Time To Die* it was an insult, full of virtue signalling garbage & now the new Bond is going to be a total bltch, fitting really considering this generations sensibilities & sensitivities.

We all know that the perfect actor for Bond is essential. The villain also essential. But I would like to move on to a female villain let's tap into a real female villain. What are your thoughts

I will reply to my own post. What is a phenomenal villain was James Bond. In Skyfall a villain can be perceived in debunking terrorist.

Apparently this movie has NOTHING to do with the Russian super-weapon Skyfall - a nuclear-powered hypersonic missile capable of precisely dispensing radiation over vast areas. The REAL Skyfall would make a MUCH better basis for a 'Bond movie.

Great video! One little thing that I would challenge, and I'd be interested to see what people think. You say that when M dies, we see Bond cry for the first time. I believe that we have seen Bond cry one other time before: In Pierce Brosnan's "Goldeneye", Bond discovers that his former special forces buddy, Alec Trevelyan (Sean Bean), whom he believed to be dead, had actually betrayed Bond, faking his own death and pursuing a life of crime and villainy. As Bond holds at gunpoint the man he had always thought to be a loyal friend, and Trevelyan delivers a mocking monologue, Bond's eyes appear to glisten with tears.

A bit late for a response, but here goes. Parasite is not a 3-act story. It's 4-act-either Ki Sho Ten Ketsu or the Korean equivalent work well to describe the film. Here's a basic description of Korean 4-act structure I cribbed off Wikipedia: (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kishōtenketsu) ~~~ 1 기: raising issues and introducing characters 2 승: the beginning of the action (but not to solve a problem, necessarily, but usually for self-realization) 3 전: a reversal or change in direction 4 결: the matter is concluded and any lessons are gained through the process or results ~~~ Act three is the climax: the surprise basement dweller and immediate aftermath. Act four is the consequence of acts 1 and 2 combining with act 3.

I rewatched recently Skyfall after your analysis and I think this movie would have worked so much better as the final Brosnan movie. There is new Q, this is last film with Judy Dench, it was a great closure after Goldeneye where Bond had to fight with rouge agent now he has to protect M after another agent wants her dead, and finally we would have a truly older agent in a new digital world after 9/11. After this a reboot with newer, younger agent would be a spot on

Although I all ready have experienced NTTD, I would love if you could breakdown NTTD for Daniel Craig's Bond. Casino Royal is by far the best bond movie with an air as Sean Connery's Bond. Daniel Craig is very talented and has range of characters he can muster. I would love to see him at a Broadway production and shake his hand.

It's an extraordinary film when you think about it. It's the highest grossing Bond film even when you adjust Thunderball's earnings for inflation. The latter film makes sense that it'd do well in this area - it's a big budget film, full of spectacle and was advertised as such. Skyfall on the other hand is a more grounded, rather dark Bond adventure. Generally Bond films of this ilk such as License to Kill etc. don't do as well in this regard. It also did some genuinely interesting things with the formula: there wasn't really a Bond girl, Bond fails his mission in almost every sense, and it gave us an insight into how flawed Bond could be as a person and agent etc. But it also retained a lot of the elements that makes the film series so distinctive, including Bond's sense of duty, the gadgets, exotic locations etc. It's a genuinely entertaining film, and despite what it's doing it never feels depressing or weighty, which Spectre and No Time To Die can feel like at times.

The beat to end act 2 requires the protagonist to be “Ruthless, uncaring and willing to do whatever it takes to protect his wealth” like the rich. But when was it set up that the rich family itself was ruthless, uncaring and willing to do whatever it took to protect its wealth. Maybe content, gullible, careless, elitist. But those aren’t the same thing.
