I was a Hulkaholic and Subby-scriber in the 60s and 70s Mike. Tales To Astonish was my #1 dream book ; my favorite of the split books (Strange Tales with Nick Fury and Dr Strange #2 ). In '68 when they each got their own title I was a loyal reader of both. Remember those original Hulk stories. The only thing that disappointed me with that neither Stan nor Roy , knowing Hulk was home based in New Mexico , considered introducing either a New Mexico Native American or a Mexican-American character as a side kick for Hulk.

😎👍 Mike , another winner of an episode. I bought FF#s 90-94 in real time and still to this day that 4 issue story arc remains my favorite adventure spotlighting Ben Grimm. The story idea was worth repeating that Planet Hulk had its version that was later part of the MCUs Thor : Ragnarok film. Those splash pages really stand out.

🤓 Cool recap on Thor's origin. I grew up reading Thor because my (late) Uncle Manny was a big Thor fan and he would let me have his books after he read them. I still read Thor during the Bronze Age and I loved reading the reprint stories. The splash pages on those cover less issues really stand out. Love the content 👍.

An advantage cover less comics have in their favor is that the splash page can sometimes be as exciting as the actual cover. Those horror reprint titles presented stories from Marvel's 1950s ,mostly precode , "Atlas" days and some from their early 1960s pre hero material , some really good reading.

Hey Michael! I enjoy your videos and this inspires me. I have had my comics in regular moving boxes for a number of years, stacked up in the basement. Thankfully we have a dry basement! Some of them are still in order, but I think the majority are mixed up. My Wife just got me a nice stack of comic boxes this past Christmas and I need to do what you've been doing. I like how you put the notes on the back of them. I've wondered about whether to do them alphabetically, or by character, etc. I like how you have them now. I suppose no matter, the series will continue into the next box, especially if it's a long run. Have a pleasant week! ~Eric

😎 Kudos to you Mike , every time I've started to organize my books I would rediscover one that I hadn't read in awhile then start rereading again. A few books later I would decide to try again at another time. In one of the All Star Squadron books , somewhere between , I believe , issues #26-29 , I forget which one I had my " letter to the editor" published. I was surprised to actually see my letter published.

Some good reading in that pile. I've been a DC guy since the age of 5! My earliest comic purchases were the 100 pagers from the early 70s. Learned to read with those comics. Was a huge Legion fan and have a full run of those Karate Kid comics. Looking forward to seeing more. The Whitman printings are kinda scarce. Only saw them occasionally here in the UK. The Master Jailer better stand in line , Mike because I L😍VE Redheads and Lana is among them! 🤓I mail ordered that Karate booklet and those Super Hero Stick Ons , I had a couple of other things I was going to send for but never did. I've always enjoyed reading The Atom both in real time during the 60s and some of his earlier 60s stories that were reprinted in the 1970s ; I like his adventures when he time traveled into the past , The Time Pool stories. I also like those later adventures in the 1980s when he was doing the sword and sorcery thing. Elongated Man is one of my favorite characters , the stories with him and his wife Sue were always enjoyable. I would pick up digests whenever I could. Gary of Bizarre Brain Comics channel has done episodes showing his plentiful collection of digests. Looking forward to your next installment.

In the Superman comic you showed featuring the Spellbinder---it appears to be the same villain that appeared in a Detective Comics in the 1960s? If so, then it's very unusual that he would transfer from fighting Batman to fighting Superman. It would be like The Riddler fighting Superman, if you know what I mean.
@13thwho8 ай бұрын
Yes, it is indeed the same Spellbinder. He later made one more appearance in “Batman” in the 1980s. It seemed that he only came out once a decade. And although Superman never fought the Riddler, Batman did once encounter the Flash’s foe, the Weather Wizard.
@augustascetic47738 ай бұрын
By golly, what a quick reply. And you mentioned The Flash too. I remember an issue where Batman fought Flash's foe, the Mirror Master but never heard of him fighting the Weather Wizard. What comic and what issue was it?
@13thwho8 ай бұрын
@@augustascetic4773 Batman tackled the Weather Wizard in “Detective Comics” #353 from 1966. The cover shows WW leaping out of an issue of “The Flash” into an issue of “Detective Comics”.

@@13thwho Thanks for the answer, man. The issue number you gave me looks like when the ELONGATED MAN was the backup feature. Since Elongated always bragged that he was as great a detective a Batman, I was wondering if Elongated ever tackled the Riddler. If not, I think he should. Don't you think so?
@13thwho7 ай бұрын
@@augustascetic4773 Elongated Man never fought the Riddler, but he did take on Green Lantern’s enemy, the Tattooed Man in “Justice League of America” #111. E-Man’s solo series began in “Detective Comics” #327, replacing the Martian Manhunter, who was moved to “House of Mystery”.

I started comics in 1970. I was a major Legion of Super-heroes fan in the 70's , when Dave Cockrum and Mike Grell were the artists. I had early George Perez art in the Avengers, Fantastic Four, and Iron Fist, as well as all the new X-men books. I had the Frank Miller issues of Daredevil and the Marvel Team-up series with Spider-Man. I loved the comic books in the 70's and I was a huge fan of the Justice League of America. I'm not a huge fan of DC's Crisis of Infinite Earths, because it erased decades of DC comic history.
