It's not really explained here, but yes J'ai means "I have" They use it here with expressions that are used with "to be " in english and it's confusing. J'ai un frère, I have a brother, J'ai 8 ans I'm eight ( But literaly in french we say : I have 8 years old), j'ai une voiture, I have a car, J'ai faim ( I'm hungry)...

+Scotty2H No. "Beaucoup" is *always* followed by "de," then a noun without article. "Beaucoup de voitures"; "beaucoup de sorties." I'm still not exactly sure why, but there it is.
