Hi! Did you have to get a permit or have your kayak inspected?

No permit required! I'm sure that will change at some point, but for now, there are no requirements.

Here’s the problems not explained. I just received mine and I’m likely sending it back. It is lightweight. The seat is not uncomfortable. Agree with all of that. Easy to assemble. It absolutely leaks a little bit and is not completely waterproof due to the creases. Agree with the brackets. They should be higher to hold the bulkheads What’s not mentioned is it’s not a great kayak for the ocean unless it’s completely placid water. I kayak primarily in rivers and like to swim and there is a problem there as well That’s another thing not mentioned in any reviews. If you fall out you Will NOT be getting back in without swimming it back to shore. Maybe if you weight under 50 lbs you can but the average man attempting to get back in will capsize it. It will fill with water, won’t sink but there you are. That eliminates being able to stop in the water and take a swim. Not happening. I spent an hour in my swimming pool and there is absolutely no feasible way I can renter the kayak. Even getting out of it can be a challenge to not swamp the boat. It also does not feel super stable as I paddle. Even the slightest movement sends it rocking which you then have to counter so for me it’s a workout just keeping it upright. If you want a lightweight kayak that you have no intentions of getting out of then it’s probably a good option. I’m still very light but there are some kayaks with not my ch more weight that are solid and more stable for getting in and out of the water. I live in Florida and spend my times in the springs and rivers. Getting to swimming locations you will frequently traverse areas with alligators. If you capsize in one of those areas you are in big trouble because you have to drag the thing to shore. Once your at the swimming locations you have to frequently swim off the kayak. Not possible. Overall it might be good for some but it isn’t going to work for me. Likely going to send it back.

All good points. No sense in keeping something if you're not going to get good use out of it. I have seen a few videos of folks getting back into their Oru from the water. It does look difficult and sketchy at best. Would most likely require some some practicing as well. Agreed, this model is not stable in rough water. There are other Oru models for that that include a spray skirt, etc. I'm still quite happy with this kayak. It does have limitations, but it's been great so far.

I finally found ORU and yes it is pricey but hey it was my BD present ;) I had a helper for the first go... watched the video about 18 times and tested it in my back yard after the living room, and I realize how much weaker I have gotten. I'm hoping for the best and being able to go out the next two days that are forecast 89, our winter is coming and just a few days to enjoy. wish me luck!!!! I chose this one so I could could take my 3 year old rescue. Hopeful. It was difficult day!!! wishing I was on the lake.

Thanks for the video. Good points. I'm trying to decide between the inlet and beach models. What made you choose the beach? I like the Inlet (for portability) but I'm a little concerned about the lightweight and tracking ( of both actually). Thanks.
@socal_explorer2 жыл бұрын
I think I went with the Beach based on on price. I also liked how much cargo room it had in case I wanted to take on larger trips. Tracking with the Beach is not the greatest, but performs well in low wind conditions. Good luck with your purchase. I hope you enjoy!

That foot rest is what prevents my purchase. They say they improved it this year but it still looks flimsy.
@simeyla783 жыл бұрын
I have this years model (2021 model with the wavy pattern) and I'm totally fine with the foot rest. The important thing to realize which wasn't obvious to me at first is it just sits on the bottom of the kayak - it isn't meant to be suspended in the air - it's to put your heels up against. Adjusting it before you get in the water to the right position so your knees are barely bent is important too. It seems to have better tread on it for grip than this one, although I haven't seen this older model in person. It will feel 'klunkier' if you have it too close to where you're sitting. I've never have an issue when I'm out on the water with it. I'm 6'3 and I don't really think about it unless I have it set up wrong. I sort of agree with the comment about the orange pieces not fitting great into the grooves - but it's fine and it's not like you're going for waterproofness, but I'm a little skeptical as to how much they really contribute towards rigidity.
@socal_explorer3 жыл бұрын
Good point about the foot rest. I find if you wear shoes it's a bit more comfortable.
