Could not land at all last year, we flew to Tenerife refuelled, took off again back to Madeira, could not land again, ended up landing on the island near Madeira and getting a boat. Was on the plane over 8 hours!

Very nice video. I hate when people clap right when touching down though. It's not over until you're on the taxiway. You can land and still go around...

Yep quite heavy braking towards the end there. Presume if they went further they would have to turn and backtrack at the end of the runway?

boatsplanestrains They usually try to use just half of the runway when they land from Santa Cruz but if they went a little bit further they wouldn't need to make a hard landing. I really don't know why. It is a tricky airport though.

I was one of the de-icing crew that day and it was so busy and hectic I can imagine your frustration.

All good, delay meant I got to chat to the pilots in the cockpit and gave the weather enough time to clear up in Funchal otherwise we might have been one of the flights diverted to Tenerife. Every cloud and all that :-)

Digga_d87 Dymott Hi I just use a small uniden bearcat UBC-30XLT scanner. Cheap and cheerful and nice and small so it fits in my pocket when walking the dog.

Couldnt agree with you more , does feel like a void has been left but again much of the same when easyjet pulled out , i think the airport deserves more long haul destinations instead of low cost airlines tho
