Dear One, How often I sit by the window, listening to the wind as it weaves through the trees, its voice like a whisper carried across time. In every gust, I hear echoes of those we loved-our family, once so near, now scattered like autumn leaves on the breath of the world. Their laughter, their warmth, their love-these things remain, lingering like the scent of flowers long after the petals have fallen. They have left us, one by one, like birds taking flight into the unknown. But do not grieve, for love never truly leaves. It is woven into the very fabric of our lives, as the wind is woven through the branches, as leaves are tangled in your hair, softly touching, softly reminding you of all that was. And love, dear heart, is always present. Children grow and love changes its form, but it does not fade. It is passed on, a flame lit and relit, until it becomes a fire that warms generations. In the tender gaze of a child, in the touch of a lover's hand, we glimpse eternity. We catch sight of Christ's love, eternal and unwavering, binding us not just to each other, but to all the things that matter-the beauty of the earth, the simplicity of a breeze, the love of life itself. Life is a fleeting thing, but it is filled with joy if we open our hearts to it. I have heard it through time-the soft rustling of leaves, the murmur of the sea, the sacred silence that follows a prayer. All of it speaks to a truth as old as the stars: we are never alone, even when those we love have gone. They are carried on the wind, their voices a part of the eternal chorus of life, their love a thread that binds us all, forever. So, walk through this world with your head held high and your heart wide open. Feel the wind in your hair and know that every gust carries a message from those who came before. Love them, as they loved you, as Christ loves us all. Yours ever, James McLain

Why Is Love So Hard And Deep ♡ Why Is Love So Hard and Deep My Dearest, Why is love so hard, so deep, like the sea with its unceasing tides that pull and sway against the shore? We enter it, so sure, so eager, yet we forget the way it transforms us, shapes us, and sometimes leaves us stranded on unfamiliar beaches. Love asks more of us than we first imagine. It is not the gentle touch of sun on our skin as we lay together on a soft beach towel, basking in the warmth of each other. No, love is the wave that crashes, relentless, against our hearts. It carves out pieces of us, unrelenting, until we are something new. And oh, how it stirs the deep places within-places we never knew existed until we find ourselves caught in the undertow. The heart seeks safety, but love, too often, feels like the tide at night-wild, unseen, and unpredictable. Yet, even in that wildness, there are moments when we find a place to rest, a small patch of sand where we lay down our fears. Is it not in those moments, beneath the vast sky, where we feel most alive? And yet, love is hard because it asks us to give, to open wide those vulnerable spaces we wish to hide. We long for a place where we can be safe, where the world outside cannot touch us, where we can lay beside each other, hands entwined, on that old beach towel, and forget the storms that rage beyond the horizon. But love teaches us that safety is not found in stillness or retreat. It is found in trusting another to weather the storm with us. Still, the depths of love are not just filled with struggle. There is sweetness there too, a kind of peace that settles like the moonlight on calm water. When we lean into the weight of love-when we surrender to its depth-it becomes our sanctuary, our harbor. It is then that we find the safety we seek, not in walls or distance, but in the quiet understanding that, no matter how hard the tide pulls, we will return to each other, always. I suppose love is hard because it must be. For if it were easy, if it asked nothing of us, then how could it ever touch the deepest parts of our souls? How could it ever carry us to the farthest shores, where we discover who we truly are? So, though the waves may seem endless and the journey long, we must continue. Together, we'll find that place to lay our beach towels, that place where love is both hard and deep-and utterly worth it. With all the love the sea holds James James McLain

What a Shitty Life, Either Buy Beer or Feed the Dog I woke up, head pounding like a goddamn drum, last night's whiskey rolling in my gut, tobacco-stained fingers shaking for a cigarette. The dog looked at me, eyes like two dark moons, hungry, waiting. I rummaged through my pockets- loose change, a crumpled dollar. Not enough. The fridge hummed, mocking me, empty except for half a loaf of stale bread. The liquor store opened at nine. I scratched my stubbled chin, that familiar itch crawling under the skin, beer or feed the dog? The damn mutt whined, tail thumping on the dirty linoleum, his bowl bone dry. Another day in paradise, same decision, same misery. I grabbed my coat, and the dog followed. Guess we’re both hungry.

To Sara: Love And The Sea ♡ To Sara: Love and the Sea The ocean whispers soft to you, A tale of love beneath the blue, Where waves like gentle arms embrace, And thunder rolls in heaven's grace. You speak to those who stand alone, Upon the cliff of life unknown, A voice, like tides that pull them near, Away from depths of coldest fear. In every storm, the heart's unrest, Yet trust, like wind, fills every chest. You hold the line, their anchor strong, A lifeboat in a sea gone wrong. And though the waves may crash and tear, Your words are calm, your voice is air. In love, in trust, in ocean's might, You guide them safely through the night. For even in the darkest seas, A whispered hope can set them free. With gentle hands, you save each soul, A lighthouse on the shore, made whole. James McLain Monday, September 9, 2024
