Gary was a real class act as both a player and a man.Such a fcking shame the way it ended for him.

Wooddya, Thanks for this piece-'Hold the Back Page' was indeed a great show on Sky at this time with many great journalists having lively discussions such as this on a Friday night. RIP to those members who have since passed on.🙏

Leeds united at that time broke a lot of legs to beat teams. Almost criminal. If your old enough to remember the bodyline series by the english cricket team ,leeds united were at that level.

players were employed by Leeds, they should have got behind the manager and kept out of it.

The look on their faces when Gary walked into the cafe. Wolves players Derek Dougan, Danny Hegan, and Mike O’Grady all tapped up before 1972 league decider. Revie was a cheat. Sad but true.

Even though it was before my life, brian clough at leeds ended because leeds players got him out as they would not work for him Talk about player power, they hated brian clough, and was not going to listen to him What dumb fools these players were, as brian clough left and joined nottingham forest and won them the prizes the leeds people wanted Shows you how dumb players can be. What dumb fools those leeds players were, they thought there shit do not stink, and they did not understand what brian clough could of done for them. He must of chuckled years later winning leagues, and european cups(todays champions league) for nottingham forest You can be sure brian clough had a good chuckle at what dumb fools these leeds players were for not wanting him to be there manager, and driving him out of the club after 44 days.

Leeds were so good, they didn't need to fix games and the rest. Revie needlessly tarnished their legacy.

Obviously Spake told the truth, and the players circled the wagons. Is there any alternate reality in which a player would betray his team-mates, manager, club and legacy for a few quid? No chance.

They could play. They couldnt beat Chelsea. In this match they actually played continental football not hoof ball English teams were known for at the time. Notice Barca played out from the back and they were no soft touch thr 1st leg was brutal. They had the legendary Cruyff and Neeskens and Brazils Marinho from the '74 world cup team that still contained some of the 1970 legends minus Pele.

Did any one of the modern day see the n@zi ref in charge of the final as much as you hate Leeds United they was robbed by 2 clear cut penalties and then a sweet goal .. apparently not surprising the glorious goal scored by billy bremner was ruled out by a n @ zi referee… check it out ( hence the reason the Leeds fans sing .. we are Champions of Europe) football is meant to be fair and Bayern Munich owe one of the stars on there top from fair play to Leeds

As a young lad of10 and from Liverpool and a Liverpool supporter i remember watching this with me dad and granddad we wanted Leeds to win but the shear physicality of both teams was fantastic it was 70s football brilliant Barcelona were a very dirty team but Leeds were crafty and could handle everything they gave them, we were glad Leeds won but that’s how i remember 70s football hard but honest and a good few fights in between 👍👍👍🏴
