Thank you for posting, I just got one at a thrift shop one minute ago for $3. It's a gem, I can't wait to catch a fish with it. Love fishing classics.😊

I own four Peerless BAM reels - two 60o and two 500. One of each is a PUM version. Do you know if Peerless BAM has gone out of business? Up until about four years ago they were the only fishing reel company still in operation in France and had a very nice internet web site. Now they have disappeared. Do you know what appended? I love these reels. - Chris

Hi. Great video. I love Centaure reels they're the coolest. I have a few, and enjoy using them occasionally, but being a bail-less user, I've wondered about converting one to use more often. I've seen old advertisements stating that bail-less was an option back then, but I've never seen a true one. What's your view on trying this, and how would you go about balancing it. Many thanks. Raymondo.

I have never met or even heard of a Centaure without a bail! There are several other versions with regular bails. I have a photo of an advertisement. If you need it, I can send it by email…

I think you're familiar with Pflueger Pelican 1020. This version comes with an ordinary bail, I have three of them. But the catalog says that there is also a version 1021 without a bail, there is only one roller! I am currently restoring Centaure Pacific RS2. Th original half bail is not suitable for use. I had to scan, re-model and send it to 3d printing. Now it remains only to polish and adjust, expect a new video soon. I really liked your idea of making Centaure Pacific without a bail! I am very familiar with the principle of operation, I do not see any difficulties and will deal with this issue in my free time…

Thank you so much Sergii!💐 I´m leaving home for a few days, but home again I will look and read your instructions again. Carefully. The thing with the pick up arm post that you show is, that the rear of the arm has a rectangular slot that can only fit in the triangular "pick up arm opening plate" in two positions, 0 or 180 degrees/backwards. In my case none of the positions have the right angles. I will e-mail you pictures. Thanks again for a useful video with many tips and clearifying comments. And nice music choice. :)

Dear Eric, hello! I am happy to answer your questions. 1) As I determined at first glance, the problem is the wrong assembly: yr claw is looking in the wrong direction. You just need to turn the Pickup arm post (part #32), everything is well shown in the video. 2) As for the washer under the spool. According to the instructions, there is a leather one there. I think this is not quite right. There should be something harder there, like on my brown Centaure Pacific RS2, namely a metal one. The exact dimensions are indicated in the video. I'm not going to use my turquoise Centaure Pacific on fishing, it's for the collection itself. Therefore, let there be a leather washer, as the manufacturer intended. 3) I noticed in your photo that the place under the roller needs polishing. I doubt that the roller will rotate normally. In short, a little attention and adjustments are still necessary. 4) I don't see any problems with your Anti-reverse button. The fact that it changed color after polishing is nothing to worry about. After 10 years of intensive fishing, the color will return to the original. 5) I can't fish now, I have a rehabilitation period after two operations. Therefore, I devote all my free time to collecting and servicing vintage reels. I especially like the earliest Shimano!.. Good luck and don't forget to listen to your heart!.. Brgds / Sergii.

I'm litterally assembling my turquoise green Pacific right now. 🙂👍 It must be one if the most beautiful reels of all time. And the quality - many still working after 70 years.

I completely agree with you, one of the most beautiful vintage reels in this color. However, it must be adjusted well so that it brings positive emotions. It's not that hard…

@@vintage_reels I have a problem withe angle of the bail arm. It´s about 50 degrees too far out. Looks out when it´s in. Must be the bail arm axis through the tube/holder, but it has two slots at the rear, which only fits two ways in the angled aluminium piece that goes into the "disc"/spool housing. I have studied my photos, your video and another video - the bail arm disengage mechanism in the housing is as it should. It´s as if the bail arm axis through the tube has wrong angles. Strange... Question: The 0,1 mm thick washer you add in one video - it´s only to compensate for wear right? Not original? I have never seen a Centaure Pacific in the condition that yours is. Stunningly beutiful. Merveilleuse.

This is a typical reel shape and assembly for the late 50s. However, its design is a little more unique and more similar to the sporty style of reels such as the French Peerless Bam…
