Much more important is the cut quality, the stone shouldnt be to deep as well and there has to be avoided inclusions which have an impact on the diamonds durability, such as big feathers at the wrong spots, chips, cavities, extremely thin girdles and so on. If you can live with a lower color, you might even be able to get a bigger stone for your money, which can be just as beautiful as a whiter diamond.

Thanks for the explanation, but I have no intention of buying multiple rings. That is absurd. A nice wedding band will have to be enough. I can afford platinum and diamonds, but I'm not blowing excessive amounts of money on this nonsense. Neither of us currently wear jewelry of any sort. She occasionally wears some clip-on earrings for special occasions. I'm probably going to just buy some really nice platinum or gold bands, wedding bands only. We've been in agreement this is something between us, not a spectacle for others. Going for the most basic wedding ever (her request, actually) and some simple but very high quality bands.

I have a titanium tension setting ring and, after 23 years, the diamond came out because my finger got stuck between two chairs and I pulled my hand out quickly. It was enough to pull the two sides of the ring apart and loosen the diamond. Now I have to find a way to pull it apart again to get the diamond back in. :(
