I’ve listened to this tune maybe 20 times now - which Tony would like because it’s how many times UNITED have won the league. This morning I listened to it, closed my eyes and within seconds a tear 😢 ran down my left cheek. Later when referencing our United greats who like Tony are no longer on this mortal realm a tear formed and dripped down my right eye! I can honestly say I don’t tear up very often as a 43 year old man. It’s not that I’m afraid to shed a tear so hide it. It just because most things don’t hit me in the heart, the body and the soul BUT MY MANCHESTER and your Manchester should always HIT YOU RIGHT THERE. For if it doesn’t then you can’t be tuned into the right frequency. Thank you Mr Wilson for everything you told me as a young boy watching you & listening to you and that most memorable day when I met you round the corner from the hacienda opposite the deansgate locks (and you refused to sign my shirt because that’s not who you were) lives long in my memory. Manchester’s most famous man is rightly Alan Turing but to me you are my favourite icon of Manchester and a statue in your honour is fitting for the greatest teacher in the greatest city in the world. It’s HOME and it’s most definitely where the heart is.

I love how Andrew Weatherall is in this. Though he was from Slough, he was a musical pioneer, at the epicentre of acid house. Saw him blow the lid off numerous clubs in the early nineties. Another lost too soon

Only just come across this, both A.W.s form a huge part of my record collection. I've been watching random stuff on KZbin in the past fortnight and the majority of videos have been selections from Britains Got Talent and things like that, it got me thinking did Tony Wilson ever have anything to do with talents shows or programmes seeking singers and musicians? He had faith in alot of musicians that others wouldn't even bother with... I can't imagine the early 90's without Shaun Ryder and Bez - recently my Mum was able to explain to her friends who Shaun and Bez were when they appeared on Gogglebox, because she took an interest in my preferences of music when I was 13. Weatherall came to my attention with Primal Scream's Loaded, he some how captured the Zietgeist of that era in that one track. Smokebelch does not get the credit it fully deserves, I've heard it in Clubs in Ibiza, in films, virtually everywhere! It is timeless and still sounds as fresh today as the first time I heard it way back then...

As a Latina living in America, I first learned about St Anthony through 24HPP and found his story fascinating. How he cared and contributed so much for the Art's in his City/Home and how he felt everyone who rose from Manchester 's Ashes should contribute to them as well. Joy Division/New Order were my introduction to Manchester, but St Anthony was my Professor Emeritus. Well done everyone, Coogan, Sumner, Morris, Gilbert, Iggy, Rowetta, Ryder, Riley, and especially Garry & Duddell on furthering the immortalization of Mr. Manchester, St Anthony . 🙏💜💙❤️

One of the great regrets in my life is that as a teenager I walked past Tony Wilson, standing on Oxford Road in Manchester, and didn't thank him for everything he was doing for music like I wanted to do.

I came here through my love of Andrew Weatherall a couple of days ago. I’ve not been able to stop listening and crying since, nor indeed have I wanted to. As a Glaswegian, whose love of his city is unbounded, I am nevertheless overwhelmed with vicarious pride and gratitude for all the music that has come out of the truly great city of Manchester. A litany of legends, all wrapped up by the maestro. Thank you so much

Heard this a couple weeks ago during a pause at a Hooky concert in Chicago. “Talk to me about Pontius Pilate of Power, Corruption & Lies” leaped out at me. I only know Wilson via portrayals in movies, but this brought me to tears.
