I like the balance of the chorus. How it calls you to be yourself while still realizing that there are definitely pieces of you that need to be left behind. "And mistakes you might make, contemplate, but do not stay there". I think that latter part is so important because people tend to live within extremes. Either all of me is good and beautiful and anyone who says otherwise is full of hate (the general popular culture mindset), OR all of me is dark and ugly and you can't convince me otherwise (the often true mindset behind the popular cultural facade which individuals espouse) because I haven't the ability to see myself through God's eyes. No, it's a mixed bag. Be the person you were made to be, but don't live in the mistakes and darkness that you so easily slip into. Contemplate the mistakes, selah, grow past them. We need both of those messages. Either one by itself is so dangerous and personally harmful. One leads to exponential arrogance incapable of any criticism. The other leads to utter despair.

My actual favorite moment from a show in my whole life was seeing you at the small room at gypsy tea room during this era. Back when you only had a drummer and would switch instruments. You were setting up the mics and pedals yourself after the opener bc I assume you didn't have roadies. They were playing semicharmed life over the speakers and you were kinda half assed singing along. Then everyone started singing along. Then you started basically lip sync performing the song. We were all there together vibing to an all time great song. It was like you were there with us, not above us. I probably saw you 10 times in like 2 years, saw the format open for you in OKC when it was still just 2 dudes.
