Good video. I found a deep socket works perfectly also. My clip was facing away so I had to do it blind but using a small screwdriver and depressing straight down on it worked great. This my second time to replace this part on my 2014 so there may be something to the theory about non-oem oil filters being an issue. I typically using a 15k-20k mile Fram filter. My truck is a 2014 F-150 5.0 v8.

I have changed 6 sending units over 5 years all differant brands. 2013 F150 5.0 4x4 as long as the idle does not drop below 500 rpms it will not trigger a low PSI. I go in from the top with a swivel head wrench, takes 20 min (reomove the coolant over flow, I have an over motor creeper). 2wd trucks are no problem to change out. ( First try idel relearn if your idle is fluttering around 500 rpms ).

Hello, my sensor needs replacing, quick question. I have a 2012 f150 5.0…..Is your truck a 4x4 or 2 wheel drive? I’m hoping that mine is not any more difficult bc it is 4x4….i also heard to take off the alternator but didn’t want to.

How did you get to this without removal of alternator ?
@edwardchamberlain-vt1dk9 ай бұрын
It's easy because you don't have 4x4. The front diff. Is in the way. You have to remove alternator.
@cougarlover2811 ай бұрын
I just replaced mine. There are other videos with how to replace these, I kept finding people with 4x4, the only way to reach it is the top under the hood. 2wd, just get under your truck. Also, the one I replaced was 13/16 bolt and the sensor was a little taller. It didn't appear to be an original part. I put in a motorcraft and good as new. The bolt on it is 21mm.

If you have a 2WD it couldn’t be easier from underneath. If you have 4WD it’s quite a bit more fun. Unbolt the alternator and move it to the side. You don’t have to disconnect the wires. I also removed the tensioner pulley. It was still tight. But I was able to get a hand in there.

I have a 2015 F150 2.7 liter. I found a few videos on how to change out this sensor. I got the drivers' side of the engine stripped of all turbo lines, etc. Problem was, on a 4X4 truck, the sensor is on the passenger side of the engine. Live and learn. It only took me an hour to replace the sensor, and another 2 hours to get all the left side of the engine put back together. This is a good video, and you are the only person who put out one of these who clarified you have a 2 wheel drive truck.
@johnkirby557010 ай бұрын
yeah, because if you have a 4 x 4 truck in this model, the alternator has to come off if I'm not mistaken because I don't see a snip of that damn plug because of that transfer case or whatever that thing is called for the four-wheel-drive or the steering assembly or something

Was having the same symptoms after having a recent oil change. Took it back to the shop for a look and they told me the dipstick was broken off and needed to be replaced. They asked, "who did your last oil change?" I said, "you did". They said to come back tomorrow and we'll take care of the dipstick and look at the oil pressure sensor. After 3 unsuccessful trips back for a new dipstick and 3 different excuses, I gave up. Bought one at Ford. Drilled out the stuck broken dipstick and replaced it with a new OEM. Oil pressure light not coming on and no codes. Hope this helps anyone with the same problem. 2012 F150 EcoBoost 258K

is your truck a 4x4 or 2wd?
@jasonsamborn86872 жыл бұрын
I have a 2014 f-150 5.0 4wd and for all the people saying you can’t change the oil sending unit with a 4wd is full of it. I put my truck on ramps and laid on a creeper. I reached through the front clip under the alternator. I changed mine and it took about 45 mins. I used 2 extensions with a 13/16 on a knuckle socket and it went smoothly.

@dginta79322 жыл бұрын
Just went through this. Make sure you clean out the terminal really well and spray something in there like DeOxit. If your oil pressure is around 25 psi when hot, then it has to be the switch and/or the terminal connection. Was able to do everything by simply removing the air box and antifreeze reservoir. If you take off the positive cable off the alternator (after taking the neg side off the battery) if gives you enough room to get a master gauge in there to check your hot oil pressure and to replace and clean the new parts.

Will the truck make a weird sound when pressure drops?
@buddywommack96712 жыл бұрын
Not if its the sending unit. The engine still has oil pressure so it should run fine. However, if it does make knocking or clicking sounds, turn it off. That could mean larger problems such as a bad oil pump.

I have a 2002 f150 and 2014 f150. I have been using Ford motor oil for a coule.of years now..I'm having the same issue with both of my trucks. Funny thing is they both started doing the same thing within a week or two apart. I'm wondering if its the oil that is causing the sensors to go bad?
@buddywommack96713 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't think so. I use Motorcraft oil in my 97 and have never had any issues. I just think those sensors were a bad design. I hope the replacement is better. I have not had any issues since replacing mine. Good luck with yours.
@diegoenriquez70003 жыл бұрын
Would that sensor make the truck to turn off while driving
@buddywommack96713 жыл бұрын
Diego, it shouldn't. It simply sends a voltage to the oil gauge. The only issue is not being able to see oil pressure. However, on some vehicles, there could be a computer input that could equate no oil pressure as a shut down. I know that is not the case on my 2014.
@okieellinger11373 жыл бұрын
Did this cause to stop sending oil to the top end or is it just a sensor, cause mine stopped sending oil and started knocking I think I need an oil pump
@buddywommack96713 жыл бұрын
No, this is just a sending unit for the oil pressure gauge. If you're not getting oil through the engine, most likely a o pump issue. Good luck.

1 of MANY issues with these 09-14 F150s. Ford really fucked up on these pieces of shits. I bought mine new and pretty much rebuilt the entire engine, suspension, tranny, whole damn truck. Coulda bought 5 Dodge Rams by now and not spent a dime in repairs. First Ford truck and definitely my last. 2hrs in and can't even get it to unclip.

That gauge is a pure dummy gauge. - That dummy gauge is basically on or off - could just be a light. - so if your idle is running rough, and it fluctuates to a psi that the computer says 'fail', the gauge drops to 0 and says 'low oil pressure' - so instead of getting 7psi at idle, you might be getting 6 - which is going to trigger the gauge and drop to 0. A lot of people think it is the oil sending unit, when in fact a high mileage motor it may be the viscosity, a fuel pump going bad, a bad MAF , etc.....lots of things on newer vehicles that can have you chasing your tail.
@BikePsyco2 жыл бұрын
I usually agree that people blame the sending unit when there's probably another oil issue, but it seems like on these it typically is the sending unit. Mine has started to become intermittent, goes on at random times only once in a while. Illogical times, crusing at 2k RPM 5 minutes after I started driving (oil still somewhat cool). I pull a 3 ton camper in the summer and it never comes on at idle after driving an hour when the oil would be as hot as it'd get. If that light comes on only at idle after driving it a while, sounds like the sensor is working correctly, and you do in fact have an oil pressure issue.
@mysiblingsareonmyaccount Жыл бұрын
Actually it’s not. Most 2014 ford f150 4x4 5.0 trucks do this and when oil is coming from it , it will cause the pressure to falsify oil pressure. After you change it , it goes away. So who’s the dummy

No David...no need to drain the oil. Just be sure to spray the connector on the wiring harness with an electrical contact cleaner. Do not use WD-40 like someone else did. They usually sell it at Lowes or Home Depot near the electrical tools. Good luck.

Sorry Gerald, I do not. I just went to the parts store, gave them my year, motor size and if it was 2wd or 4wd. Mine is 2wd. By the way, on 4wd vehicles this process is different. On those it involves removing or at least moving the alternator. Check You Tube as I am sure someone has posted this for a 4wd truck. Thanks.
