I wish there were areas in our country people could move to that were far more affordable. On top of that, they've recently made moving illegal, so we're stuck in the same place forever!

This topic is redundant and stale. Let’s talk abt your life choices - my wife and I . Potentially two income earners - okay- 4 children-? So one income earner and wifey stays home w the kiddies? Smart move. I don’t feel sorry for you.

You can thank your rotten corrupt government for that. America wages have on gone up 15% since 1965! Meanwhile housing has gone up 118% since 1965! Between that gas prices inflation and crushing taxes the average American household is making less today. Than the average American household in the height of the Great Depression with wage adjustments for the times. But don’t worry because the house just voted on a 23% wage increase in 2023 for completely failing at their jobs! Not a single house politician voted against it not one! So good luck until wages go way up or housing goes way down the days of our grandparents are nothing but a memory of the past!

I’m 38 and 12 months away from owning my own home. Bought it at age 30 and have worked my guts out and will own outright within 12 months. In Australia. Housing ain’t cheap. Young people need to stop the complaining and start earning.

It’s not just I Hawaii. The boomer generation has ruined the quality of life for every generation after them. They refuse to leave seats of power in our government. Out country has done nothing but build more debt. It’s sad. You are supposed to want to leave your kids off better than you were.

Hawaii is the ONLY STATE with "Land Use Boards".. the only countriee with that type of bureacracy are Communist Countries... if you restrict building as population increases prices rice exponentially to an undefined upper limit.

I went to Oahu in '88 what family. We went to a luau and the performers there actually lived on site because they couldn't afford a place of Their Own. He said everybody works 7 days a week because it's so expensive to live here! That's crazy!

Economic World Forum blatantly stated you will own nothing and be happy. They just have to take everything and make you rent everything. Federal Reserve, IMF, and all the banks are on board with this.

As we move thru time, resources get scarcer. Lumber, materials, labor, all rise. I bet his great great grandfather was able to purchase more land or even get land for free with the Homestead Act.

Well, living on an island state where everything has to be imported from food to all the construction materials and gasoline and all the energy it’s just always going to be expensive there and many times more than the mainland. Plus, beautiful climates are always always in top demand so inflation is going to hit those places the hardest :(. He said his father whoever had five children well you can’t keep increasing the population with a finite amount of land and expect prices not to go up :(

The fact a normal family, who shows up to work everyday is being priced out of the options to buy a home is going to start a firestorm and I have my popcorn in the microwave. You scumbags don’t know what you’ve done!! If there is a civil war it’s between big biz and regular Americans. Guess who’s more??? Why again are super rich building bunkers?? To protect themselves against Americans when all the ignorant folks find out.

Surprise surprise. We are still slaves and peasants from antiquity times but given a bit more freedom to pay for it ourselves instead of having the masters pay for it where we are on close proximity to them. Now we pay to get a bit of distance. But still have to see them 5 days min a week 8-12hrs out of our day. Yay

My father bought his first house, 1,100sqft; wife and two kids, on a single income of $45k in '89; house was $67k, built in '68 last remodel in '88, on 1/2 acre. I just barely was able to purchase my first home: 1,300sqft, wife (who works) and four kids, total income of $89k, house was $200k, built in 1946 last remodel in '76, on 1/7 acre.

What is most absurd. Is that you got investors from California going out to the Islands Hawaii etcetera purchasing homes out there and putting them up for Airbnb. I say any investors that are taken away from the natives and are not a native of that land should be pain luxury taxes the native should have first bids on their homes over and an investor . Get those investors to pay luxury taxes yes I did say that again😊

Incomes have lagged far behind the cost of living. This is the corporate & passive income class taking advantage of the rest of us. After 2008 crash Wall Street started buying all the homes they discouraged from owners through bankruptcy & foreclosure. That caused a home shortage & ballooned cost. It was planned, the middle class was financially raped en masse.
