I love Data in this episode so much. It’s a shame the girl didn’t actually want to date him for him. She was just on the rebound and repeating past mistakes (which she explained in the episode). The awkwardness came from her not from him, imo. It’s frustrating though, because our boy deserves the world 😤 he’s an excellent boyfriend 💕💕💕

This woman had no reason to be in any relationship - least of all with Data. While he's doing his best to accommodate her needs (trying to learn and adapt), she's doing what she can to change him into how she thinks he should be and eventually dumps him because he just can't fall in line with her high expectations. No one deserves a self gratifying partner like her. (poor Data).

I've never been in a romantic relationship; I'm always an outside observer. Frankly, I don't understand why someone would behave like Jenna, saying one thing but meaning another. And the whole reverse psychology/mind games thing just seems so unnecessary. Why create a problem when there doesn't need to be one?

Data how can you be so smart and not get this simple fact about women. When they want something they will tell you the want it. Also when they want something they will tell you they don't want that something. Also when they don't say anything you should know exactly what they want. Also remember to tell her that you were wrong and she was right. See simple. 😂😂🤣🤣👌👌

Data looks so cute and awkward trying to blow a kiss. While he, or more accurately, Brent Spiner was handsome, his hands are one of the things that caught my attention the most. I don't know if it's the white makeup, but I find Brent's hands quite beautiful. They look quite delicate yet still masculine at the same time.

es, if only people would just say what they feel instead of doing the "social labyrinthian dance". you don't have to be as blunt as Data, but being as indirect as she was is not really very helpful to finding a mutually understanding soulmate.

Lady, you're literally dating a robot who doesn't understand human emotions. Why are you frustrated that he is very literal and doesn't understand how to provide you with the emotional response that you want?

*Data* did nothing wrong. If she wanted something, she just had to be honest about it. He's been polite and replied to her questions properly, but she's a woman who chose to date a toaster, pretending from it to reacts like a boyfriend.

Alright, I've read several similarly-themed comments in this "comments section" - but I'm creating my own thred (hopefully), rather than attach to another. As an "Aspie", i can VERY MUCH relate to Data's approach here - I do not have an appreciable amount of what I refer to as "Natural empathy", but they way i compensate for what some (including myself) might see as a "shortcoming" in my connection to others, is to take a moment to consider how I would feel if "the shoe was on the other foot". I find that by engaging in this (relatively) simple exercise: voila - i am exhibiting "empathetic behavior". I've explained this to my new girlfriend (I haven't even ATTEMPTED to have one in a VERY long time), and she seems to appreciate and understand what I'm getting at. Maybe this can help a few of you out there - it seems to be working QUITE well for me at the moment!

This is funny, and I get how her reactions are the "normal" response from most people. But honestly I love that Data appreciated her gift in his own way and wanted to utilize it in the best way possible. He was also willing to try and understand her when her communication wasn't clear in the first place. He may be made of various metals, but he is also comprised of 100% boyfriend material.

That chick was an idiot. I totally understand her initial attraction; Data was adorable. And hot (IMHO, anyway). Considerate, kind, friendly, funny (usually unintentionally, but he tried), smart, protective, and always making an effort to learn and understand emotions and people. Paints and plays violin. What mere android has hobbies? Plus he liked cats. He's not flawless...I just can't think of any at the moment. Probably because they aren't problematic (again, imo). If I'd been in Jenna's Starfleet issued boots, I would have expected Data to behave differently from the humans I'd dated prior...pretty much the point of it. Also, Data hadn't dated before, and his bff was Geordi, who, while we love him, has little success. (Clearly that changed. But at the time...) What upon the earth or starship would Data really know about this kind of relationship beyond reading about it and talking to his friends? Annnnd you're not dating a Betazed, Jenna! Geesus, TELL him what you need and want, then give him room for error since he's a babe in the woods in this regard. Honestly, I spent 3/4 of the episode wanting to smack her. Or Worf could do it. Or set her up with Lore. THAT would have fixed her wagon. Plus: my boyfriend's quarters are a tad spare in decor. I'll give him something clear to brighten up the place. 😂 I feel like they wrote it this way due to Brent Spiner's fan mail (the bulk of it, anyway) to not have to give the character a potential romantic interest (that's what Riker was originally for) by saying Data wasn't date-able or boyfriend material. The hell he wasn't. Thank you for joining me in this unwarranted episode rant!😂🎉

Todays experience with three Korean women reminded me a lot of this scene. From my perspective we didn’t even finish building the social foundation yet to find out if we want to flirt or not, then they already left angrily. As always my impression is that the women expect me to start the conversation with a clear interest and goal in mind, while I haven’t even decided yet if I’m interested. Im open to be flirted to, in my eyes at least. But that doesn’t happen. And I’m not getting active if there’s no tension in the air. Even then my approach might be different from what turns the women on. My assumption is that my problem with women and my problem with employers/customers is almost identical.
