Cool man. When I was a Cub Scout in the late 80s/early 90s I had a small blue SAK but I don't think it was the Classic SD as I'm almost positive it only had the blade and no other tools. Would you know what it was called? I just bought a Classic SD in yellow at Walmart and I'm loving it. Gotta gets the Compact or Explorer next.

i have 2 of them (both 3") and i agree on the detent being a bit mushy (though it isn't a "real" detent in the classical sense anyway, it reminds me a bit of an axis-lock, feel wise). it takes a while to figure out the right angle for a spydie-flick but it's possible. like you i have no issues with the blade "falling" open and personally i think it is a great knife, it's robust, slim, easy to carry and the relatively slim blade stock makes for a great cutter. the only thing i would change are the scales, they could use a bit more grip in my opinion.

Did it develop any blade play? And how’s the bearings holding up. Seen a video on how quality is and been curious
@kzine2000Ай бұрын
You made an excellent comment about the placement of the main blade on the SD classic, which I’ve found to be very inconvenient. And that’s one of the main reasons I went with the rambler. Having the blade AND the scissors opposite the ring is wonderful and changes the whole usability of it.

Why do you think the Finn Wolf pocket knife is cheaper than the Verdict, while the blade is longer there, and the material is, in principle, better. What do you think set the prices?
@LrdwEDCАй бұрын
@@wadmez I would guess it’s because the verdict falls into the the Goldilocks zone for edc with blade length 3 inches and below. Also it is thinner, lighter, and has a deep carry pocket club. Blade geometry is better suited for every day tasks. The Finn wolf seems to be better suited for outdoors/bushcraft. I haven’t personally added one, but it looks cool, and I would like to try a Scandi grind.

@@wadmez in areas that have regulation on knife blade length, most, but not all will allow for up to a 3 inch length. Obviously, there are some areas that are more restrictive, so your mileage may vary.

@LrdwEDC2 ай бұрын
No blade play at all, rock solid. I would do a full disassembly, clean up, and lube the bearings. Hopefully it will resolve the issue.
@HalmHammerhand2 ай бұрын
@@LrdwEDC thanks for the reply. I disassembled it last night and didn’t see anything obvious. I tightened the pivot just until the blade was centered. When I say play I mean it takes a small amount of force at the tip to feel it move. Just wiggling it doesn’t do anything. Especially near the pivot.
@LrdwEDC2 ай бұрын
Does it have play with the frame lock disengaged, say at half closed with lock bar still pressed away from the tang, or is it just in the lock open position?
@HalmHammerhand2 ай бұрын
@@LrdwEDC No there’s no pivot lash half way. It’s definitely more noticeable with it all the way open and the frame lock disengaged though. If I tighten the pivot till it stops it takes some healthy shakes to close it.
@LrdwEDC2 ай бұрын
That is disappointing for sure. Maybe smooth out the tang where the bearings run with some fitz polish. Other ideas would be consider bearings replacement with skiff or taco to see if that allows better action with tighter pivot, or just tighten that sucker down with some locktight, and flick it repeatedly until bearings create a nice tract and it breaks in. With the weight of that blade it should be droppy pretty quick 😊

According to knifesteelnerds, the steel change to H2 was not necessarily an improvement on H1. Here's hoping that there is an omega spring out there that will give the bar lock more 'oomph' when sucking the blade back in. Cheers!
