Nice, congratulations on finding a car. Yes, I think many now think that for example Infinity is a faster car than Shepherd but I think the differences are minimal and it is actually hard to say which brand is faster than another. Maybe on top level currently Shepherd is a bit underdog because there is those arrangements going on on the background. But I think it will no go to a better direction because of the new company backing up the brand.

One thing that came to my mind now is that this track is quite harsh for the engines. This temperature thing is a bit vague for me. I did get some info about the temps last summer. If i remember right I was told that this MAX engine is a one that could be run hotter than 105 without problems, like 105 to 110 at least. Thank you for your comments. I have been thinking to remove this video because I don't really know whether there is any point in this. At the time I was just so happy to have my first good engine. Sorry I actually don't know what the inline means here :(. Last summer I did a bit better but still need training with tuning an engine. I think I broke one engine at the very last track day of this years summer :(. When it comes to summer 2023 I have kind of mixed feelings. On the other hand I feel frustrated because of not being as good with the engines than what I hoped after summer 2022 because I tried to learn quite a lot. With this summer (2022) I had my best moments with O.S. engine. Then I changed the conrod on that and during that process I decided to run a Max engine because I bought one of those (a used one). Don't know whether anybody is interested in this text but will continue anyway :). Well, I have two Max engines. One is a used one with all new inner parts and another one was said to be driven 8l with a new conrod that was already done with the break-in. I selected the used one because wanted just to drive. I had some strange issues with suddenly lean and I thought am I crazy. Then I noticed the HSN went lean by itself (!!) when driving on the track. I have a witness on this so it is not just me. The needle changed it position by itself. So maybe new gaskets for the needle will cure it. But when I had the another max engine I just switched the carbs. But I kept having odd troubles, something what I did not run into with the O.S. engine. I am not saying O.S. is better than Max or anything but still there seemed to be something too hard to figure out by myself. When trying to lean the LSN I came to a point where the engine did not hesitate in anyway when letting the engine idle for a while and going full throttle after that. But, when leaning a bit more the LSN the engine started to hesitate for a short while before the revs got to the max. And when I tried to richen the LSN to get the hesitation away I had to richen it much much more than what my last leaning of the LSN was before the hesitation came. Doesn't it sound there is a problem? Glow plug was ok, that was checked and tried new one, more than one. So next summer I am trying the O.S. again and see that can I do the tuning ok with that and see that does it behave the situations like I think it should behave.

03:40, Cheers! 😁 06:45, Oh, dear. I wonder what happened. Was it driver error or some other issue (I'd guess electrical issue, since it accelerated crazily after impact)? 11:57, would that driver normally be an A finalist.? The driving standard is very tidy. Here for a B final, you'd get pushed off in that sort of situation.
@OnroadRC_and_OffroadRC_Finland2 жыл бұрын
Hello! :). At 06:45: The backstraight was flat out until the tight left-hander. From that lefthander it was possible to go full throttle until the semi tight right-hander. In the middle of that part there is a fast right-hander. In the apex of that fast corner it was very critical not to cut the corner even a little. If you do that then you might end up going airborne when the car gets air under it. It is possible even to fly straight over the barrier and to the main straight (have done that). I talked with the driver after the race and I don't remember anymore what he said. But now when I looked the situation I am thinking he just went wide on that very fast right-hander and then there was no grip and as the speed was very close to full throttle at that point then there was nothing to do to avoid the barrier. In the end there was something broke from the car but did it come from the first contact with the barrier or after the crazy acceleration , that I don't remember. I am quite sure there wasn't any electical issues so that acceleration was just something done by the driver but it might be the car was already broken in some way at that point. 11:57: you mean that orange car? Yes he is usually a A finalist driver and has been also on podiums there. On this semifinal there was a very time consuming error by him on the first laps. He was after that perhaps the fastest guy on the track and at this point when he came out of the pits he was fighting not to get lapped so that he could then more easily try to continue catching people. I think it was slightly bit too aggressive done by him but on the other hand I also understand from his point of view. Had he let past those guys he might have tried to unlap himself and also then there could have been contacts. Although I think at least one of the guys that suffered at that situation pitted almost right after. But yes, quite tidy racing and I was very surprised that there was no major contacts on this situation.
@sonicstep2 жыл бұрын
@@OnroadRC_and_OffroadRC_Finland Yes, it was the orange shelled car I was referring to. That guy was on a mission. 😁 Out of interest, what is his name and what chassis/engine was he running?
@OnroadRC_and_OffroadRC_Finland2 жыл бұрын
Well I think there is no harm to say names because it can also be figured out through other routes so.. He is mr. Munck. You can see the results here www.myrcm.ch/myrcm/report/en/65852/294655 In this semifinal he was fighting in the end very hard with mr. Hongisto for the 4th spot which was the last bump up position. And Munck managed to get the 4th position in the end so to the main final he went. And there he was finally 2nd! I don't know did he had some sort of issues in the qualifying heats. The track was quite grippy so maybe it was something that he had to setup the car differently and it took perhaps some heats to get it right. He is driving Mugen. I don't know the engine but I am sure it is always in good tune. Mugen importer here in Finland races also himself (the importer) and besides that he is an excellent driver himself also he is very good with the engines and they are co-operating a lot with other Mugen drivers. Munck's mechanic is also amazingly fast with the pitstops. I noticed they have good co-operation and they have been in to this sport for a long time so the mechanic always knows how the driver enters the pits etc. Massive advantage. I have still a lot to learn in that sector also :).

@@sonicstep Thank you for youself for commenting etc ! :) I got now some info about the possible engine, it most probably is os r2104 gold edition. Most drivers here in Finland seem to be not so young. Now on summer 2022 there was some new rising youngsters also, quite a many new drivers in this class there was last summer here. @OnroadRC_and_OffroadRC_Finland Жыл бұрын
Yes, thank you, JQ has made many good videos. I actually had watched his videos also at this point also when making this video. It was just that for a newbie there is just so many things happening and so many things that needs that affect on other things that it was so easy for me to be confused on the track :(. All seemed to be clear when watching the youtube video at my home and then it wasn't so clear at all when running at track and something not so expected happened :). I was so scared to ruin the engine I wasn't maybe able to do the tuning changes that needed to be done. I dont remember anymore so clear but I think there might (for real) have been something odd also with the carburettor, maybe a small piece of garbage somewhere.. When you are a newbie with the tuning you dont realise that there can also be something wrong with the car and the engine, you easily accuse yourself for all the troubles. And then ofcourse it can happen the other way around also, you accuse your car when it is not the car but it is the tuner himself :). At the end of this summer I had advanced a bit with the tuning. I think the biggest help for a newbie would be a more experienced guy who would explain things on the track while he is tuning the car for the newbie. I have noticed that usually the experienced guy seems to be in a hurry and he might tune the car for you but he doesnt have (understand this also, everybody usually is in hurry, time is money) the time to explain what he is doing and then the car might be in tune and the newbie can drive with it but he didnt learn anything because he wasnt able to keep on track what the experienced guy was doing.

What brand and % oil+nitro is used in this video?
@OnroadRC_and_OffroadRC_Finland2 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the delay. Had to ask friend about this because it was their fuel :). That fuel is actually not available here in Finland, maybe never. It was One fuel with the product code ONE-164N-P. We needed a kind of licence for it granted by the police :). This ONE-164N-P had 16% nitromethane by volume and at least here in Finland you need a permit for that, is it the same everywhere in EU countries, I guess this is one of those EU rulings? Driver must request police that he or she needs a certain amount of such liquid per one year. Driver must then also explain why that stuff is needed and the police then decides whether the application is accepted. Some bureaucracy.. Now next summer there will be only those products available which have less nitromethane. The number is still that 16% but it is 16% by weight which means less nitromethane than what the 16% by volume would make. We were actually in a bit of a trouble with the fuel in this race. We had two fellows in this final and they both were using the same cans of this One fuel. If both cars would have finished OK it would have been very close to run out of this One fuel. We had some Hot road 16% fuel to back up the race. Had we had to switch to another fuel brand would not have been very optimal during a race but guys wanted to do that so that they could finish the race allright. Unfortunately one of our two guys (championship leader actually at the time) had to retire because of front belt going bad and then the fuel problem was a kind of solved. Not a hoped way to solve that problem though.. :(. You can actually see the retirement in this video.

There is something but haven't measured it, have to measure if that is the thing I should check. I was now having similar kind of issues with another engine and I think it was related to the fact that I just had too small idle gap. One have to remember that I really am a beginner, although trying to learn and study these things alot still though a beginner. So there can be something I just have missed. I am trying to get this engine again next season I think in May if the weathers are fine. I wish the winter would be over even though it hasn't even turned into a winter yet :). I think I have damaged it at least slightly but I am not sure because there was also some signs of some sort of small object ( maybe a piece of plug wire) having done some damage, once again not sure. I bought a connecting rod earlier and changed it on this engine. It was a must if I wanted to run this again. On the other hand it might have made more sense just to sell the rod and forget this engine but as I have liked this a lot for some reason I just wanted to change the rod and try to make this going again :). It felt that it was quite ok but on some other days it might be grippier and even though you might feel you are driving the same lap times there can be a relatively big differences in the end with the times. I wasn't able to take the corners in the fastest way but I guess that is what is the point in training :). On this track those two corners before the main straight can be done quite nicely if you are able to get into the inner line, there is a very nice grip but as soon as you drift even just a half a metre away it is much slower I think. Or at least it feels like it. Did you notice this layout is like it is on the Fiorano track. The driver's stand is just on the opposite position (not along the main straight).

Thank you so much for your nice comment. I commented some things below when answering the other comment. Yes, there might have been an issue already at this point. After this movie I actually cleaned the carb, didn't find anything odd though. Then I ran this engine on two different occasions and then there actually emerged a bigger problem. The piston looked like I had driven it too lean at some point. Well, this was a nice engine and I am possibly trying to get it running again and maybe just practice with it and spare the sligthly better engines for racing. When I started with these cars I realized I probably cannot avoid making at least one engine bad when trying to learn tuning. Still a bit sad with this engine now :(. One of the bearings feel bad, haven't yet removed them but I will do and check them. One problem is that I have heard that the bearings for this engine might be quite expensive, a bit too expensive..

something wrong with your engine
@OnroadRC_and_OffroadRC_Finland2 жыл бұрын
Please comment more about the issue. When doing this video I was in the beginning of the learning process regarding engine tuning. I have now learned a bit more but still a lot to learn. I actually was forced to change the engine soon after this. I might have done something wrong at some point. I don't know whether you watched the whole video but the engine still got better in the end. Because I was trying to avoid breaking the engine I was doing very small adjustments with the needles and even going forth and back just to see that does the changes affect like I thought they should affect. I was trying very hard not to go too lean with the HSN and I was trying to find the right spot with the LSN and now afterwards I think I found it already but still tried to lean more the LSN and that just was not possible go any leaner anymore? Then because I was afraid of leaning HSN too much I just did not dare to lean HSN enough? I am now currently using two engines, one O.S. Eurospec and one Max rp9 and I feel (and other drivers who have been around when I have been driving) I have succeeded tuning them quite right. Still I realise there is very much still to learn but I am quite happy where I am currently. I can now also concentrate also a bit on the driving also and not just on the engine :).

Better send your mechanics to check the temperature every few laps and reduce the number of "wet" laps.
@OnroadRC_and_OffroadRC_Finland2 жыл бұрын
Sorry have to ask: with the wet laps you mean the laps when engine is running way too rich and perhaps even loosing temperature totally? Yes, I figured it out afterwards that should have gotten more rapidly closer to the right settings so that at least the temps would have been almost there. Now they weren't.
@michaelliu74042 жыл бұрын
@@OnroadRC_and_OffroadRC_Finland Suppose that there is a narrow range of optimal temperature that the mechanical condition of the engine is the best, we should run the engine at that temperature as soon as possible because at the other temperatures the tear and wear and also the tightness of the cylinder and piston are not the same. For example if the engine temperature drops after two rich laps, we can reduce the fuel and the engine temperature should go up again. We can repeat this process two or three times until there is just a small trace of smoke at top rpm while the temperature is not exceeding the plug temperature. Then you finished your break in. Just my sense. Enjoy.

Yeah it got better in the end. I was too shy and too careful with leaning the HSN.

Nice track where is it
@OnroadRC_and_OffroadRC_Finland2 жыл бұрын
Hello there! Yes this feels nice. A quite new layout. Wasn't there when the older layout was on but everybody has said this is much better. This is located in Helsinki, Finland. Aipworks Circuit its name is, visible in Google maps. If name Teemu Leino rings a bell this is kind of his hometrack.

Pista molto bella ,la guida è buona, ma migliorabile, il motore, che comunque rimane acceso, non è carburato bene. Bel video,saluti dall'Italia!

Yes thank you for your message. Yes, the engine was very new and so it was the break in process was going on and that is why it was so rich. Now I have a different car (Shepherd) but the same engine still in use :).

wat spur and pinion r u running
@OnroadRC_and_OffroadRC_Finland3 жыл бұрын
Hello sir :). Spur is the 81T one that came with the car. I am sorry, I'm not sure about the pinion at that time. It could be the 21T that came with the car or then it is perhaps 22T. Afterwards I found the 22T to be more suitable for me with this track and with the back straight length this track layout had. But I don't really remember what the pinion was when shooting this video, if I had to guess I would assume it is 22T.

@@chrisneru6564 To be honest this video was made just for a kind of fun. Thanks though. From the video the car can be seen oversteering in almost every exit of a corner etc. But after that it has gotten better for me. I am not so experienced so it is a kind of loop of learning driving better and learning to set the car better and learning to acknowledge the setup changes better when driving the car and learning to figure out what to do for the setup.

How is it going now, was it straight forward to dial in, and how did you find the availability of parts? Just joined fullspeed and considering getting into indoor buggies, have been racing touring cars in the past. Trying to workout if 2wd or 4wd buggy is the way to go!
@OnroadRC_and_OffroadRC_Finland3 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply :(. Parts availability could be slightly better now but Ithink it's getting better. The local hobbyshop next to this track is the official importer here in Finland for the Sworkz brand. It is also possible to get parts abroad quite fast but it would of course be more convenient to order and buy them part by part from the local hobby shop.. Setting the car was quite easy but if you are new to this hobby you might want to consider Team Associated cars also. Many hobbyist on Fullspeed track are using AE and you get more help with that car. I personally like a lot Sworkz cars but you are a bit "lonely" with them when it comes to setting up issues. I personally have used quite a lot of time when trying to learn setup matters and I am fine with being a "lonely wolf" :). I am not sure whether I have run in to you at the Fullspeed tracks. If you didn't buy any car yet please give that thought another shot. This hobby is just awesome as you already must know from your past! :) NOTE: there is more hobbyist who have a 1/10 2wd buggy so when thinking of for example club races 2wd 1/10 buggy might be a more safe choice (sometimes there might not be enough 4wd buggies to make a proper race). Although this autumn there has been more of them also.

Joo.
