ALL martial arts need updated to the 21st century. Two things that ALL martial arts have in common is 1, they give the practitioner confidence and 2, none of them teach a pre-emptive strike. They all rely on you reacting to what someone else does first. This isn't 17th century China. Sometimes, you HAVE to get the first strike in but no martial art teaches that. That's why they need updated.

As a martial artist, I can say that there are some schools that don’t talk enough about actual self-defense in the real world (I’m looking at you, tae kwon do) and a bigger worry is people not pressure testing or being taught how to be aware of your surroundings, and not being stuck in tradition. You know, the basic concepts of self-defense. In the real world sometimes you gotta strike first. We were taught that from a traditional Chinese school, so don’t know where the heat is coming from there. Unless you had a bad experience, then I apologize. Usually the attack has already happened if you’re not being aware. So it makes sense learning how to deal with receiving an attack, too. Do most people walk around punching everyone in the face the second they think someone wants to fight? Probably not. Most of the people I’ve dealt with in my work say they’re going to do something, but it usually never even gets physical. It’s the sneak attacks that get people here. Also yeah you should definitely be confident when you fight, regardless of your skill level. If you do end up in an altercation, it seems half the time when you show them you’re not some weak, submissive person, it completely changes the dynamic of the situation. Edit: some don’t update because they preserve culture and tradition. Good for health and cultivation, not so much for self-defense. You might be able to take a technique or two out of it, though. Hope that helps clarify a few things.

It cracks me up you see but you don't see. It's all preemptive block is an attack attack is a block. What do you think this form is mostly blocks cause all you saw were a few punches? Granted i'll extend and olive branch go through the history of Japan or China. Almost all of the styles have weapons and grabbing. It was all quick and to the point people would die or be forever maimed. Helio Gracie got his arm broken by Masahiko Kimura. Google it

Greetings Sifu Samuel Kwok! I have an idea that might help in the future, it would help many many students to learn wing chun from you from all around the world! You could teach people while using a VR headset, specifically the next meta quest device that will have eye tracking, you could teach many people from all around the world, you could also charge a small fee and make alot of money (which would fund the headsets for you and others who can't afford them) I hope this idea helps, peace my friend

For some reason the Rupert Holmes - Escape song popped in my head while watching this. “… If you like piña coladas And gettin' caught in the rain If you're not into yoga If you have half a brain…”. I would like to do this form while this song was playing.
