makes me so sad that my cousin is having issues... using Kaweco Sport with Pearl Black and at first is fine, but then it had some bleed through after a little while...

I also did a test in all my planners to make sure and they look the same the only one that is different is the weeks but i think its because of when i bought it i got a spring edition and i know they said it had different paper. But no really problem i use the Zig dot pen and yeah there is ghosting but again happen in my 2024 as well. There is only 1 ink i used in both that just does not like the 2025 paper.

The Pentel brush sign pen was given by Hobonichi as a gift one year. I suspect it's because they knew it would perform better on the paper.

My 5 year bleeds with everything. 😭 ballpoint (which I don’t like at all) is the only pen that doesn’t. Thankfully my cousin is good!! Thanks so much for doing this 😊

Wouldn’t the Cousin and the 5 Year be a different run of paper because the Cousin is much whiter than the 5 year which leans cream. I hadn’t heard anything about this problem, although I have seen people find differences in their fountain pens in that the tip size produces a larger stroke in the 2025 (this was comparing 2024 Weeks to 2025 Weeks where the paper is the major change) on some YT videos. My first year in Hobonichi was 2024, and I went to Sterling Ink this year. I had the Cousin for 2024, and an A6 and A5 Sterling Ink for 2025. I’ve done pen tests in the A6 (A5 hasn’t gotten here yet) and I actually like the paper in the Sterling Ink absolutely fine (she says it’s Sanzen TRP) and this was testing different fountain pens at the store (nothing bled through, and didn’t even ghost as much as I thought some might. Anyway, I like an EF nib, although I tried F and M as well.) Mildliners and Zigg Dot Markers don’t bleed for me. I’m not much of a brush pen person. Hopefully since Hobonichi stamps a serial number on each planner, people with problems can contact the company and provide the serial number so they can see if it is a problem with some batches of paper, and hopefully they will offer a refund or replacement with a different paper run.

There is a long thread of people with problems along with pictures on Reddit. I don’t usually do Reddit, but I heard that r/fountainpens and r/Hobonichi are moderated much better than some others. I tested all of my pens that I use(I only use fountain pens). I only had problems on the Thank you for your hard work Aoki San Weeks l; the fountain pens all looked like a medium/broad, and I used both western and Japanese fine nibs.

You scared me 😭 so I went running to get my cousin 2025 to do my own pen test with my fudenosuke brush pens, I applied more pressure than I usual and didn't bleed though at all, only a little ghosting as usual 😅

I never use sticker kits in their intended size/planner or really in their intended way 😂 partly because I don’t use standard vertical planners or hobo planners but also I like to curate it and make it my own. So I’d love kits that aren’t in the common format. It’s more fun and flexible and would work in my shop planners too. 💗

You could cover your five year with wrapping paper or with decorative paper or cards took from Michael's. They sell them in those multipacks in awesome color scheme. It would be like a DIY journal cover. You could even try marker paper and decorate it yourself, then change it as the mood struck you.

Hey you should do some swatches In you 5 year, people are talking about the paper causing bad bleeding and I’ve definitely experienced it myself with mine that I just got. A lot of things that normally work in hobonichi won’t.

I’m using my planners next year 😂 but I’m super excited for it!

I see most people using the day designer pocket (A6) one find it’s too small. They are all having to pair it with a notebook and a ton of sticky notes. It’s become pretty viral but for most it’s way too small and not actually functional without adding other stuff to it. But they love it 😅 I tried it earlier this summer but it was too small as I’d expected but thought maybe I was wrong. I gave it to my kiddo and he’s loving it. Though he still using a a full size academic planner. The day designer is for his home stuff and routine tracking mostly. He did have me set it up for him to make it less girly. There’s other covers from other places but most are more expensive than target some almost twice as much. Bloom paper sells one too.

I am chucking at Scout, who clearly was trying to help you with your talking points.😂I just picked up a ruled version of the Leuchtturm A5 in Sage.💚 As for 2025, I am getting a Hobonichi Cousin and a Hobonichi Day Free, I need to decide on a 7x9 vertical weekly. Discbound and dated is preferred. I used undated inserts from VillabeauTifful for my vertical 7x9 this year.

I’m leaning towards using the Aura Estelle A5 365 planner. I believe that will fit my needs best. I also have a target planner that I use to note about my day before putting it in the nicer planner. I want to say those are the only two but I know how I am and this will change or become a longer list 🤣

I started back in college taking notes on looseleaf ( that’s really all we had back then, and I would reorganize and make a nicer, color coded copy, that way I would have already studied once. It was huge to realized that I did better with a binder vs a spiral notebook
