I purchased the Evergreen back in 2022. I love it. I am so grateful that I researched wood stoves before purchasing. The only thing I have issues with it that smoke still comes out from time to time when I have the by pass damper fully open. Not sure what I am doing wrong. I use my wood stove all the time during the cold seasons. Fall, Winter and spring time. Love the feeling of the warmth from the wood stove. So relaxing.

Thank you for choosing Lopi! We are grateful to have you as a customer. If you have not already, we recommend you review the owners manual. It contains many helpful tips and tricks for operating your appliance that you might not have thought of. The manual can be found under the documents tab on the website for your product www.lopistoves.com/product/evergreen-nexgen-hybrid/ If you are having trouble with smoke entering the room during startup, try burning a piece of newspaper to establish a draft. If the flame is not getting enough air, opening the door a crack is all that is needed. If you are having trouble with smoke entering the room while reloading, ensure the air control is open in addition to the bypass before attempting to reload. Let the air stabilize before opening the door. Then open the door one inch to allow air to enter the firebox for a few seconds. Once the smoke is flowing up the chimney consistently, open the door fully. Chimney height and outside conditions can negatively affect draft. Adding more piping or a draft-inducing chimney cap may help.
@EliseAngelofHealing4 ай бұрын
Yes. I do have the manual, and I have read through it. It says "To open the door a small amount and let air enter the firebox to equalize the pressure, and then open the door fully." As soon as I open it up a small amount I can see the smoke coming out. Maybe there is too much smoke in there since I use fatwood or maybe I am opening it up too much. I don't know. . My Niece's husband was over, and he said his did the same thing. They do not have an Evergreen.

Always wondered why high temp sealed capillary heat pipes that can move a lot of heat were not used in wood stoves to capture heat lost up the chimney and bring it into the room with a hidden (behind the wood stove façade) finned radiator. Of course, adding a fan for some forced convection on the radiator would move even more. Or move the heat into a mass of phase change heat transfer material where it could be slowly released during the night. I believe a while back, a stove manuf. in Europe somewhere was experimenting with a phase change heat transfer material in the double walled stove. Seem it took forever for the hot water solar industry to catch on to using sealed capillary heat pipes for solar panels. But now, it's what is used. There are very high temp. ones also. They move a ton of heat. (Without them built into the Alaska oil pipeline supports , the permafrost would melt. Of course, very tiny ones are used in modern computers to move heat from the electronics and prevent overheating).

Very impressive! If you come out with a cookstove, I'm in! I just love a wood cookstove, but the new one we just put in is one hungry, almost insatiable machine. We are delighted with the one we just put in to replace our wood burning fireplace that lost so much heat up the chimney. Now we are very, very warm and cozy. If I could just have the efficiency and control you just demonstrated to lower the wood use in a conventional/contemporary cookstove, I'd buy one.

Build this and they will come: Free standing stove that extracts the heat from the outside of the stove with a forced air flow system that mimics an insert. All the heat around the firebox needs to be moved into the room. Passive systems are inadequate. I have a quadra-fire with the fan unit. It blows 95% of the air along the back of the unit, and 5% on the left side. Zero air on the right and top. So I get active air movement (and heat transfer into the room) from less than 20% of the unit.

It would need to stick out too far or be more complex. My fireplace has long bypass handle and I sometimes bang my head on it when loading it and sometimes get caught on the handle when standing near it. I think they’ve plumbed in a bit more secondary air than some stoves, and increased the air control to a lower potential (which is great for when you load up the stove) and have a catalytic burner… even though description makes it seem like it’s not a catalytic stove, he mentioned a ceramic coated grate that burn gasses. It also would likely have an automatic dampener to reduce the air once the coil on the dampener heats up… (which helps prevent over firing an unattended stove).

I have a ~10 year old Lopi insert that does not have a blower - I put a small fan near it blowing across the stove. If you open the door slowly, little to no smoke comes out. I have a very poorly insulated 1960s vintage, two story house of about 1800 sq ft. The fireplace is on the lower level and when it's 0F outside the upstairs far end of the upstairs living room is ~67F, using only the Lopi for heat. Of course the fireplace room will be 90F or maybe even a bit higher. I mostly burn pine because I get all I want for free,. If run the Lopi real hot for 15-20 minutes every third fire or so, very little creosote builds up in the flue and I have a ~20 foot stainless steel, single wall flue inside the old chimney and have never had to clean it out, only the wire mesh spark arrestor cap on the top, every other year or so. Unless you want to restoke your stove at 3AM, get some hardwood for the overnight burn. GREAT stoves, even for the price which is notably more expensive than the lessor performing ones.

@GMC-qo9xi4 ай бұрын
Why do you think it’s there? (Since it’s an insert there’s little to no room to spare for the required contraption to be on one side… as it requires a rod with moving joints or chain and pulley system to be tucked in there to get to the dampener which needs to be where that lever is at the bottom. Point being that the decision is based on simplicity… ie. form follows function. The more complexity that is introduced the more problems while arise over time not to mention initial expense. Whereas you could use your own poker to operate it while standing…. Whether or not you need to drill a little hole or tweak some little thing is up to you to decide what will work best for your needs. Simple enough, no?)
