As someone who has no idea about surfskating you're cutting a damn good figure though - could have to do with you having an idea how to surf I (a skater, no surfer) suppose. 😅 Of course that's what it's meant for - in fact the more you as a surfer "feel home" on a surfskate from the onset the higher its quality, usually not just as a surfing trainer. The exception here are so called _'hybrid trucks/systems'_ without an additional swivel plate mechanism which are essencially normal RKTs _("Reverse Kingpin Trucks" usually used in longboards in contrast to TKPs/"Traditional Kingpin Trucks") but with an extremly steep kingpin angle to increase their turning capabilities - such designs can vary wieldly in quality with you being on the save side with riding _Carver,_ the company having invented both general approaches of modern surfskating, with _hybrid system_ trucks of other competitors being better or worse clones of Carver's design with only two or three being on the same level. However, what I actually mean to say: Such _hybrid truck_ surfskates are meant as a compromise of surfy feeling/carving capability and design simplicity without additional moving parts which is the better solution for completly unexperienced riders in regards to skateboarding/board sports and all those for are looking for "a mere cruiser" with surfskate capabilities but increased stability particularly when getting pushed like a regular skateboard and are quite fun - I'm riding _Hydroponic Skateboard's_ version myself on one of my setups. But when it comes to a somewhat authentic feeling of surfing and actual training for the break you may take greater advantage for your surfing with the more regarded and complex swivel plate based designs by _Carver, YOW, Waterborne, Smoothstar_ or the completly unique approach of _Swelltech_ (which I would go with as far as calling it pointless if you are a non-surfer) with their particular advantages and quirks. _YOW_ and _Smoothstar_ are probably the best place to look for a complete if you are a surfer with _Carver_ being nice as well though lacking a little lean. _Waterborne_ on the other hand is absolutly amazing when you already have an appropriate skateboard setup such as a cruiser and want to turn it into a surfskate because _Waterborne_ is taking the adapter approach known from _YOW_ and _Smoothstar_ without shortening the wheelbase by design so you can turn whatever pre-existing cruiser or longboard you like into a legitimate swivel plate surfskate by slapping it in between your deck and front truck. In contrast to its competitors it doesn't rely on vulnerable spring mechanisms but relies on a bushing insert and an industrial standard roller bearing you could readily replace even if _Waterborne_ no longer existed. It provides great lean as well as the opportunity to experiment with whatever truck configuration you like: I'm currently riding a 3" _Penny Board_ front truck on my Waterborne/YOW mash-up to take full advantage of another absolutly unique _Waterborne_ product, their so called _rail adapter_ for the rear truck. In most swivel plate setups you'll find an extremly thick space pad in between a regular rear truck and the deck, with the standard rear truck struggeling to compensate for the swivel plate front truck and the outside rear wheel losing ground contact in turns at a certain amount of lean - but the rear adapter provides 30° of additional lean which keeps the wheels on the ground and makes your board lean consistently rather than more at the front foot than it does at the back foot. In addition it makes the ride more smooth in general and comes closer to how I'd imagine water to feel - I just re-realized it after not having used a swivel plate setup for quite some time (tried the hybrid truck approach for surfskating ramps because it should be more stable when rolling fakie which it certainly is, but not as much as I had hoped for so I abandoned the udea and bought a dedicated ramp setup again). Then I wanted to experiment and paired up the Waterborne back adapter with the Hydroponic hybrid front truck which turned out to be absolutly amazing to the degree that I would recommend to try the rail adapter even if you have decided for another system with your front truck. It felt so much more smooth that I couldn't help myself to do an experiment with my front adapter as well after having noticed some core surfskaters riding (and _Swelltech_ implementing by design from the onset) front trucks considerably more narrow than the back truck - for good reason because it gives your surfskating a massive push if you are going technical.
