@@davidtruluck3989 I think this is a load of toss from SAS. The only thing different is the head. It's a lump of metal. What's it going to do, melt? I bought a set of the cheapest ($100) box set of clubs about 23 years ago. I sold them on, and know about 5 owners that used them since and still see them doing the rounds with someone else. They are still playable after years of abuse and were never near the quality of the current DTC offerings. I get the SAS gig, buying wisely with second hand used gear. But that can also be full of potential traps, are they original spec for lie, loft, length etc? Tired grips that add to the cost etc

Because of the price of irons, I have been looking in the second-hand market. But now I am looking at Caley, Takomo and Maltby irons for the price and can get them in my spec. Caley has a good static fitting system making them hard to resist. since these are direct-to-consumer items, a head-to-head with these three brands would be helpful.

@@garymartingolf Definitely suggest checking out the Maltby irons. I've been doing some club building for fun and think that the Maltby TS1 IM and the TS4 iron heads look worlds better than the Takomo 201 irons I've been playing. The TS1 IM irons are performing on par with my Mizuno Pro 223 irons. I've settled on the Mizuno's for my regular set and the TS1 IM as a more forgiving hollow body iron. I really fell out on the Takomo's because the PW and 9 iron top lines looked so chunky . Maltby's look great throughout.

What is the rule on moving the lined ball marker, can you move it to get the line where you want if the ball isn’t on the green, I wouldn’t have thought that would be allowed.
@garymartingolf2 күн бұрын
I’m not sure what you mean. The ball would have to be stationary on the green before you can line the marker to the hole and then match the ball. You couldn’t do this on any other cut, unless a player asked you too, due to your ball interfering with their lie.
@stephenshaw7980Күн бұрын

3 wood is still a long shaft. If you look at the Cobra one length 3 hybrid it's 19° loft and 7i shaft (so 37.5"). Most people are still going to get that over 200 yards and it's a completely different swing. It isn't an "up and down" swing but it feels it and in general you're just not going to slice it.

Gaz, the PGA Tour average putts per round is 28.91. My putts per round average is 30.2. I don't use a line on the ball, don't want too either. I use the line(s) on my Odyssey 7. I'm not sure any training aid is going to improve me 1.3 strokes per round to get me to PGA tour average. What does help is that I actually practice putting beyond the 5-10 minutes before a round. My main focus is to take three balls and practice from different distances and angles to the hole. I don't putt from the same spot over and over. I'll finish my practice by having to make all three balls from 15-20 feet away. Can't leave until I do that. That makes you focus and teaches pace control.
@garymartingolf2 күн бұрын
What’s your handicap? I would say you’re already in the top 1%. I personally think the line is great for alignment, I’m not saying it’s going to help you anymore, but I see so many people stood over a straight put, and they’re not square to target. I even see this with myself someone’s when editing.
@DanB-2 күн бұрын
Dont get too hung up on putts per round average v tour, you wont be hitting the amount of greens they do so yours "should" be lower if thats the case as your pitch/chip puts you alot closer on average for your 1st putt than people that hit a high % of greens.

@@garymartingolf Gaz, i'm a 12 handicap. It usually goes down to 9 or 10 by the end of September. I'm 72 at the moment. Don't use a broom handle putter. Nor left hand low. Nor the claw or any other type of grip to putt. I had 31 putts today. One three putt. I usually play monday thru friday. What I do find that helps is a lightish grip, not choke the putter grip. On short putts, keep the putter face square to the hole when you follow through. And not be afraid to miss by 2-3 feet as I think I can make every one coming back. I have a 32" putter and stand close to the ball to get my eyes over the ball. Which is key to knowing you have the putter lined up with your target line. Works for me. 😁

Short Game Chef did an interview with the Golfers Journal. He was taking about how equipment and course conditions has changed the way we play. He mentioned that with the Balata Ball, you werent to hit up on it, more of a leveling off at impact. Related Side note, In Harvey Penick's little red book, he mentioned that players way back in the day (Pre-1950) used to play all iron shots way further back in their stance and strike down on it much more because fairways werent nearly as well manicured. As fairways got shorter, people were able to move the ball up in their stance. We all still hit down on it and take divots, but not nearly as much as they were forced to.
