Base on your instruction I did built my on using the same wheels my is getting stuck by the screws is any way you can share how you attached the metal to the studs ? I'm looking to find out what screws you have use to not create any friction to the wheels ? I will look for your help if you don't mind helping? Thank you ,Magda

No good! Those arrestor are for individuals. What if your arrestor work on one side quicker than the other. You go sliding off!

If you want to be safe put a counter weight of concrete equal to weight, the put behind your tracks with other tracks use life on bottom to offset the weight that always pulls up. If main wire breaks that weight will just pull you up

If I did that, the elevator would never come down.

Yes. It’s not being put under much strain and it doesn’t get used everyday. Plus, it’s right in front of t of me to inspect each time.

Planning to make a diy elevator myself, but was struggling in designing a diy emergency brake for it. Thank you for posting this, now I know what operating design principle to use to materialize my diy emergency brake. 🙂

Im a retired millwright, we build and install stuff like this in factories. I like your idea, but get rid of the wood and use metal, please. Your headers the hoist is hooked too arent on edge, those will eventually snap. The 2x6 you are hooked to on the carrier will eventually break. Use an H beam up top for a header and through bolt the motor. For the carrier at least make an angle iron frame around the 2x6(id make the whole carrier metal). Look at retractable lanyards, 2 total, 1 on each side as safey catches in case something breaks. And safety cable the motor to something, just in case. Fyi, i will be building one in my new garage.👍✌️

decent safety measure, although a little complex. did you look into a ratchet setup, like what automobile lifts employ, that way you don't have to worry about snapped cables, bungee slack or arrestors?

Fantastic ideas great build I appreciate the video and will build mine like this. When doing your top the posts are good, but the top beam will sag with the 2x4 laid down. Yes even with the unistrut there.should probably be 2x8's and sttand them up, this creates a solid beam that will never sag. If you wanted you could use 2 - 2x8's with a piece of plywood in between. Again Nice build bro thanks for the good ideas.

If only there was a way to fuse metal together so this wouldn't have to be made out of wood. I've bookmarked this one, going to remake this system out of metal.

Can't speak for MN, but in CA, that would be an instant fire code violation and an utter deal breaker when selling the home. Insurance carrier would also drop you in a heartbeat. Very creative though!

have you considered grinding a few teeth into the ends of the bars that would help the bars to catch and dig into the wood. Also a cool vid that would go viral would be to put that 300 pounds on there again and dis able the fall arrestors and MAKE it fail. Just an Idea. You guys are amazing and I am inspired to build one of these and after watching your vids I will DEFINETLY over build for Safety!!!!!!

Pretty cool, but just a couple suggestions. The through hole for the eye bolt in the top 2x6 of the carriage is a little worrisome. It eliminates a lot of cross sectional area from that beam at the location of the highest stress driving the internal stress even higher. I'd replace that beam with a solid one with some kind of hanger that wraps underneath and secures in place with couple of screws. Next point, I'd probably in parallel with the hoisting cable introduce a retractable fall arrestor in case of some failure within the hoisting assembly. Lastly, would probably be good to have some pressure sensitive bars at the open edges of the carriage that cut off power to raising the carriage. Then if there happens to be kids that somehow get access to this without adult supervision, no one gets decapitated.

Hi! My husband came upon this video and I flipped my lid! I'm driving the white Cordoba with red flames in this same race. It was my second Enduro and one of the best times I had. I totally remember the pretty in pink team! I would love a copy of this video to keep on a thumb drive or my computer but I can't figure out how to do it. I have an action shot of me on the track but no video. I can't wait to show this to my kids and granddaughter. Look at Grama go! Corey Blank was my name if you have a list of the drivers. Thanks!

I enjoyed your video. It looks very sturdy and well designed. I want one installed in my garage to put things up in the attic but I had rats up there. Now I am afraid to go up even though the rats have been removed and holes plugged up.
