Hi guys, just a quick question as there are plenty of self appointed experts out there and I've had various opinions. Do you recommend the likes of a friction grease on the bars at the hitch end. I have heard plenty of squeaks from hitches as the tow vehicle manouvers. Same question about grease on the towball. Cheers and thanks. Stu
@Haymanreesetowing2 жыл бұрын
Hi Stu, No, we do not recommend the use of grease as it does collect dirt and become abrasive. We have better long-term results without when it comes to wear unless very regular removed and reapplied.

Can I ask why you would adjust the ball height using the cam plates over just using the multiple holes in the drop shank?
@Haymanreesetowing2 жыл бұрын
Hi Joshua, The cam washer is used for adjusting the angle of the spring bars to gain or lessen the amount of chain links you have. You wouldn't use the cam washer to adjust the ball height. This is covered at 5:40 in the video. Thanks

Hi Joshua/Matthew Boost is a feature of the Compact IQ that assists braking by altering the level of braking applied and adjusting the accelerometers sensitivity depending on the trailer size. Increasing the boost increases the level of braking.

For the people complaining that it is "their" product, I have seen tests from other people and every one shows the WDH coming out on top of the airbags. The WDH distributes the weight...which you want. The air bags only address the sag in the back, they do nothing for the weight in the front.

Ball mount head angle set properly for correct weight distribution with the spring bar is a long proven weight distribution option but ...it’s not easily adjusted to differences in how the trailer may be loaded. The Anderson system is more then capable of distributing the weight forward back onto the steers of the tow vehicle,and rearward onto the trailer axles. Where the Anderson system excels is in it’s ability to provide load distribution that’s adjustable with the provided socket. Depending on how heavy or light the trailer has been loaded forward or aft,you can easily add or remove weight from the steers to give you the safest and most comfortable ride, without the bounce that (SPRING BARS) provide! Anderson’s other attribute is it’s superior sway control second to none!

what about backing up to position my camper trailer into campsite. i don't want trailer brakes to be on when doing this. my jeep is an auto shift so my brake pedal is use while doing this?
@Haymanreesetowing5 жыл бұрын
Hi Billy, apologies for the delayed response. A proportional style brake controller such as the CompactIQ, is designed to adjust the braking force of your trailer to match the braking force of your vehicle. When you are reversing into your campsite and you have your foot on the brake pedal, the brake controller will only apply the same level of force. This will ensure that when you want to stop the caravan safely, it will not continue to try move. We hope this helps. If you have any more questions or would like to have a chat with one of our Brake Controller specialists, give our team a call on 1800 812 017.

To all you ...newbies out there. You cannot just buy a brake controller for a Dodge Ram pick up. Even if you have the tow package. You must also buy the brake controller adapter harness wiring......... Just bought a Reese Towpower Brake Evnn compact brake controller and tried to install in tow package ram 2014. No luck. This controller comes with one 4 pin box like connector. Called number inside package and was told need to run red wire to brake area. There is no separate red wire. Looked it up and founds a site that offered customer service, You have to buy harness with separate red wire. So then ordered: a Reese Towpower® - 2 Plug Brake Control Adapter Harness, This thing comes with one end having a 4 pin connector and the other end has 2 grey boxed connectors. One of the 2 connectors is just for the red wire that goes to a terminal that is somewhere near the brake. This is for the brake signal light connector. The other gray box goes to a box hanging under your steerwheel dash. If you do not have a prewired tow package, you may also need to buy and install a long 7 pin/plug wire that goes all the way to the back of your vehicle. Please see other information sources about this for better information, mine was prewired and I am also a new to this towing life. more details on - www.carid.com/2014-dodge-ram-trailer-hitches/reese-towpower-2-plug-brake-control-adapter-harness-1583486417.html. This site offers software that allow customer to plug in make and model of your vehicle. Just found it. Why is this so hard? No one really seem to come out and say you need a wiring harness with a brake controller, even if you had a factory installed tow package when vehicle purchased. Anyway, I watched this video about 5 times. I cannot really understand the gentleman. He but does not show enough about the wiring. Please show me where the plugs are, what they look like, how many pins they have. What do I need as adapters? Maybe have someone repeat what he says in a different dialect of English. Not trying to complain. Just need really good instructions that are easy to understand to buy and use this product. Not very many good videos on this subject around the net. Thank you for what I did learn on this video. Would love to see one more specific. Maybe about the product I ordered.

Hi Bumble Bee, thank you for your feedback. Reese is a different brand to us here at Hayman Reese. We are based in Australia so our vehicle wiring is slightly different to vehicles in the U.S.A. Certain U.S. vehicles such as your Dodge Ram may come partially pre-wired for a brake controller fitment however are not specific to any brand of brake controller, which does make fitment different. We recommend you speak with Reese Customer Service on 800.234.6992 for assistance, their team will be able to help you out.

1st - 35 psi? Pretty sure air bag systems can handle a great deal more than that. Try it 70 psi and then show us the result. 2nd - Distribution hitches don't help when there's 600 pounds sitting in the bed of the truck. 3rd - This isn't an either or situation, one can make use of both air springs/bags and weight distribution hitches. These can be used as complimentary systems.
@Haymanreesetowing5 жыл бұрын
Hi John, Yes, you are correct airbags have a range of pressures they can operate correctly within, some are up as high as 70psi. This video shows though that at 20 or 35psi, the amount of redistribution of the weight across the axles doesn’t change. While we haven’t done the test again with the airbags at 70psi we would expect the result to be in line with the 20 and 35psi results. You are correct on this too, this video was to show the effects on the axle weights on the vehicle when trailer tow ball weight is added to the vehicle tow ball. Airbags are a suitable product to assist the suspension of the vehicle to carry the weight in the rear of a vehicle. The Weight Distribution Hitch, however, is the best solution for restoring the balance of the vehicle axle weights when trailer tow ball weight is added. Again, we agree either product is not a one-stop fix for everything, Weight Distribution Hitches and Airbags have their specific capabilities and when used correctly can be used together to achieve good distribution of the trailer tow ball weight and assist the vehicle in carrying heavy loads.

A "weight distribution unit" is a must to not overload the tongue but I hope you are also using a trailer brake controller and not relying on the truck to stop the trailer.
