I have a 69 also. I have to hold the key into the on position in order for it to not turn off. If I let go of the key the bug turns off. Is something wrong with the ignition? What could it be?

That sucks, older cars sometimes used shims to get the starter set properly. If you didnt replace the starter and this is happening, try brake parts cleaner, a hammer and depending on how its made, maybe some lube with a straw. Be mindful lubricating near the clutch/flywheel if its a stick. If that doesnt work, new starter.
@dubworldvwadventures8 күн бұрын
This was a new starter. I put the old one back in and sent the new one back for warranty replacement.

Probably sat on a shelf for many years before you bought. Wintergreen oil AND/OR AT-205 Reseal, put some in a small spray bottle, wet down your bushings, boots, and other rubber components, especially on older car applications where parts are prone to sit before sale.

Yes cause we all love Chinese made garbage that cracks in 1 year. It'll be scarce and hard for a year until american actually starts making more america made parts and stop relying on imports from cheap labor garbage
@NoNameFrezit20 күн бұрын
More and more American companies are moving productions over seas or Mexico for cheaper labor with zero regulations. Causes crap products. They are many companies that made good solid parts until they moved out of the country and went down hill quick

I don't know what modern rubber is made out of but it's garbage
@Joe_JesusWins_Lewis20 күн бұрын
They're intentionally leaving out a component for cheaper end price, and planned obsolescence. AT-205 Reseal will preserve rubber parts for decades. Put it in a small spray bottle and spritz rubber till wet every few months.
@Joe_JesusWins_Lewis20 күн бұрын
Classic and antique cat parts have a tendency to sit on shelves a lot longer, rubber will slowly dry out.
