Were you down towards the swing bridge? Used to be some good sized eels down that way… between there and where the Magpie is. As a lad (about 45-50 years ago😊) I used to fish down there quite a bit, with ragworm or lug.

I have fished of the pier there yrs a go mainly mackerel and a small gurnard. I was visiting some relatives in Liverpool 3 wks a go and fished in the river mersey caught lots of Dogfish and a small ray 2 lb . The guy fishing further up had a 6 lb ray and a strap conger
