I just had a injection for hydrodilation and corticosteroid injection. After 2 months of not sleeping and my motion decreasing, I feel like a new person. Pain is manageable now, I can sleep and my motion is nearly full range. I wish this option had been presented earlier.

Any suggests on Manipulation under anesthesia (MUA) as a treatment option. My Orthopedic Doctor is suggesting this but I'm on the fence, as the technique is mostly forcing the range of motion under anesthetist to tear the humerous in to full range of motion.

What happens after torned piece of anterior hip labral taken out via arthroscopy. In future, does the normal movements of hip and femur then give rise to any kind of arthritis, because we don't have labral cution over there anterior part of the hip joint?

Im 39 have trochlear displasia both knees grade 4 cartilage damage both knees. I walk like an 80 yearold, everyone thinks im drunk or on drugs. Medical professionals made the problem worse by continuity saying it was all in my head And feeding me anti depressants. Siroquill was the worst thing I could have taken. This started at 17, lossing the ability to kick a ball without popping my knees, then did 15 years of construction work on them. Backs also rooted from pulling cable and heavy ladders and carrying lazy people. I was hyperactive, now im not. Sports stars are using this. Im sick of walking like this

A meniscal tear if a Nightmare injury to receive, so painful, and there seems to be no easy solution to get better, IF, you ever get better. A person can be in pain for the rest of their lives.

I have a labral tear on the rear lower area of my shoulder. I work a very physical job that really pushes both my arms. When the pain gets really bad it is in the front of my shoulder. Wonder what could cause such pain in the front groove of my shoulder even though the labrum is torn in the rear lower? I also have a cyst where the labrum tear is.

Hi Dr. Samra, I'm weighing up sports medicine physician as a career choice against physiotherapy. I understand that sports medicine physicians generally make more money and doing medicine opens up opportunities to potentially go into other specialisations if my interests change. From my understanding, both physiotherapy and sports medicine physicians do non-surgical work, so in a sense their job is similar? I was curious to know if you had any suggestions regarding this (factors to consider) and if you could suggest which one is the better career from your perspective, having completed a degree in both fields!

Thanks, but to be honest, your sound quality distracts the viewer. Buy a wireless microphone. It will make your presentations much easier on the patients who are watching.

I had an MRI and it says I have a broad-based tear of the labrum and a large cyst in my glenoid cavity measuring 2.5 x 3.7 x 2.9 cm. Is that common and did the tear cause the cyst or vice versa? Waiting on a doctors appt weeks away to get answers. I would love any information.

I read an article in Scientific American where they took cartilage from a cadaver that has been dead for less than 24 and put the cartilage in someone else and it will take it as long as the person has been dead for less than 24 hours the cartilage that you transfer will still be living and will be accepted by the host. So I am fairly certain it can be replaced. It may have never been tried for the knee before but in theory it should work. Problem is there isn't a lot of cadavers you can get tissue from in less than 24 hours. I believe it was for one of the discs in the back if I remember correctly. Not sure why they can't grow a new one from tissue culture either. I read in another issue there was a special powder that caused cartlidge to grow where ever it was placed in the body inbetween tears for example. That could also be used to help culture tissue in the exact shape you need for it. C'mon we now have computers that process information in parallel universes and you guys can't devise something C'mon!!!

It has been tried regularly in ankles and is practised in the United States by Dr. Bugbee with varying levels of success for perhaps 20 years. Look up Fresh bipolar osteochondral allograft of the ankle. In Europe the procedure has largely been abandoned, because the revision rate is considered too high.

Paradigm Biopharmaceutics. They’re doing a trial for iPPS in US. Check them out.

Dr David. I'm not clear when you say Pentosan is an "icing on the cake" treatment are you suggesting it is something that should only be used once other conservative treatments (exercise, weight loss, analgesics etc) are waning in effectiveness OR it should/can be used alongside other conservative treatments? If the former then why not? Is this out of concern of unknown long term health impacts and/or limited effectiveness after X amount of doses as with steroids? I notice it has now entered stage 3 trials. I find it frustrating as someone with OA in a far less common joint that trials are so drawn out and soley focused on knee OA (as with most prospective DMOADs). Being a subcutaneous injected product I would have thought it would be easy to start expanding into trials on other joints by now once the safety of the drug is established. I have read an article in the Herald sun about someone on the phase 2 trial who said she had improvements in other joints affected by OA as well as her knee. Paradigm have received fast track approval from the US FDA for fast track approval for the "Broad OA" program but have only listed trials in hips on their roadmap. What are your thoughts on the prospect of trials being expanded to all other joints if the stage 3 knee trials are successful and in what order and timeframes? I believe there are 360 joints in the human body.

Pentosan the tablets gave people blindness. Macular degeneration. The thing is how much you need from this and the subcutan intake may have a different absorption as via through directly to blood!

A life threatening side effect of SC or IM use of this drug is "pentosan induced thrombocytopenia and thrombosis" You have to be avare of this extremly rare but also extremly dangerous event before considering treatment! Sadly but true, as it works miracles in my veterinary clinic and I without a doubt belives, that it is effective in humans too :( pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/7507640/ pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/2461180/ pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/1689564/ pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/9303962/
