I have a silly question. I have a 13.2 gypsy vanner that is now green broke. I have been riding him in an Abeta saddle which I just use for starting horses. He has lost some weight so I went back and did another saddle fit on him. My issue is the saddle just feels sloppy rocking it back and forth. Not front to back but side to side. At 71 yrs. young I am not as agile as I once was. I don't want to get on top of him and feel like it's rocking around. Any suggestions. I intend to sell him as he is too small for me but I would like to keep him going. TY

The placement seems to be the opposite of most systems I see, this is much further back. I see how that creates a pocket for his shoulder to swing back into and fill.

I can't wait to get a saddle fit with Contour. I've learned so much from watching Leticia's videos, so so much. I'm 59 and I have a wonderful horse, all these years I've never had a problem with saddle fit - until now. And of course it's my wonderful horse I'm having trouble fitting. I'm saving for one of these guys saddles. Bareback is scary at my age but I refuse to put a saddle on him that's hurting him. I felt like hitting myself in the shins with a softball bat when I realised why I couldn't get him to round out. He was in pain and he did his best for me anyways. Yeah he deserves the best I can give him and I honestly believe it's one of Leticia's Natural Horsemanship saddles. Big fan here in Australia. Leticia thank you for the education.

Never use Nylon chinch straps they have NO 'give'... Using nylon would be like having a corset on vs a bra made from a stretchy material.

Correct, that's why I use a mohair girth. It has give that makes up for nylon. I use nylon because I live in an area where the humidity is high all year, even in winter, the air isn't arid. Dehumidifier in tackroom, saddles in completely closed zip up bags, still get mold on the leather and I ride 6/7 days a week, wipe down before and after rides. I use wool saddle pads too and it takes at least a day with a fan to get them dry. The mohair cinchas dry with 2-3 hours under a fan. Mold and accelerated rot are battled daily that's why I've gone to nylon off billet, tie strap and beta biothane bridles. That's my compromise, still going to always use my good leather saddles. The cordura saddles cannot compare as the tree can't be the same good ones.

So Letitia, have you made the seat ergonomic to a woman's pelvic anatomy? I also feel the riders seat needs to be SUPER SOFT, as to allow for pelvic pain from fibromyalgia etc... I am so glad saddles are moving in this direction! Ty!

Hi, Tanyita Thanks for reaching out to cheer us on! Indeed, Improving the lives of horses and riders has been our mission for more than 20 years and we're thrilled to hear females feel well cared for in our saddle seats! Our ergonomic design fosters well balanced hip/leg angle and stress-free posturing to move in harmony with horses and we have a variety of padding choices. . Perhaps the best plan for you to assess for your personal needs would be to take a test ride in one. Is there a style that appeals to you for your favorite equine sport? If the seat softness didn't suit you we'd be happy to talk about what improvements you'd think necessary.

Essentially, by manipulating our interface {pad and shims] that is what you are exactly doing... Horses change shapes all the time with seasons and work, this allows you to also adapt with them. So what about the tongue from the buckle? All these western girls have that tongue and if you do it this way you don’t need it to put it in the hole so it just hangs there. It seems dangerous to have a piece of metal sticking out like that.

No horse has the same back shape, some have a rounder back which require a different tree shape than a horse with a slimmer back. Some horses have shorter backs, and the added pressure from a saddle used on a longer backed horse will cause lots of pain and discomfort to the horses spine

@@ContourSaddlery I will but I discourage the “one size fits all” adjustable/change gullets are okay because they are more likely to fit a horse better as the shoulders and withers are typically the biggest problem.
@ContourSaddlery
@ContourSaddlery 2 жыл бұрын
@@trampshostess5994 We agree! We don't have adjustable saddles. We have saddles built with extra room to accommodate the working shoulders, with less rock. We use our pads and shims to be able to adjust fit for the individual horse. This is a very clever and easy system. Suggest you explore our website to have it explained in more depth. But you are SO right with the shoulders and withers being a huge problem for most horses/saddles.

@@ContourSaddlery How would your set deal with a horse who changes drastically from beginning to end of ride? I have a mare who normally has a long, hollow back with sad muscling and low withers. After work though she has much better muscles, her withers increase in height by up to 3 inches, and her back comes up by about two inches. Like low muscled, upside down, QH to uphill warmblood in thirty minutes. I legit don’t know how to deal with that.

@@amberblyledge7859 Firstly let's take a look with a FREE saddle fit evaluation... But we would recommend you look into our auto-dynamic air pad. This pad is able to adjust underneath the horse and support saddle and rider with, [over simplified explain] pocket of air. The interior of these pads isn't just 'air'.. but this is the principle. Very interesting! Versafit Air Pads. Might be perfect for your horse. The blood flow is what is changing your horse's body shape. We allow for that with our saddles/pads and shims when recommending a fitting. Perhaps a TEST RIDE?
