Have you ever tried Repashy of any variety? All my other fish love it, but haven't found much info on ADF.
@chrisfishfrogs6 күн бұрын
I used the omnivore gel with my fish, but my ADFs have never really taken to anything other than individual meats and bug bites. If the frogs go for it, they will definitely make a mess of it, so it'd be best to have fish around to clean up the scraps.

I know this may seem like some silly questions so I’m sorry if it is, but I know the video mentioned about feeding every day or every other day until the frog is full, but is there an amount recommended for feeding two frogs? (mine will not have fully grown yet) For example is a generous pinch for each or both good? Also as they get older do they need a bigger meal too? I don’t want to under feed or over feed them, if anyone has any in depth tips for this I’d greatly appreciate it😊
@chrisfishfrogs4 ай бұрын
It's best to experiment yourself, by observing how much your frogs eat. The best way to do this is to target feed some worms or shrimp, using tongs; feed until they don't eat anymore. This will require some time. Failing that, I would put food in one designated place, like a feeding dish or in a specific corner of the tank. If the food is all gone the next day, try feeding a little more next time. If there's food left over, feed less next time. Good luck!

@chrisfishfrogs4 ай бұрын
It's probably okay if it's buried under rocks or sand. You just don't want the frogs accidentally ingesting it. If the frogs are on top of the bio-stratum, there's a small chance they could ingest some, but it's not likely. Good luck!

You can plant them in pots (there are planters available specifically for aquariums: www.aquariumcoop.com/products/easy-planter?srsltid=AfmBOoqy5U445tYCLMgBxRxENglJvlKPDlgnB4yoIPNXIH-pbqY0r6v9). Or you can use floating plants, like water sprite.

A 10 gallon should be fine for one. You can fill it to the top if you have a lid, otherwise 3/4 full. Light isn't necessary, but it won't hurt.

I kept my frogs in a 70 gallon tank that I filled 2/3 and they seemed happy with the extra swimming room… I went all out for my babies 🥰🥰…p.s they will try to eat your guppies even though they can’t actually swallow them, I caught my girl in the act with half of the guppie out fighting for its life, that’s when I realized why their tails were all torn (I thought it was the water current and went through like 3 filters🤦🏾♀️ in reality it was just mighty Melissa always looking for easy food even thought she was already overweight ) also dropsy at the vet, there’s little they can do.. one got it and the vet tried to drain it with a syringe but it’s hard to do that with what is essentially a mushy fat quarter that won’t sit still( just getting the weight was a challenge to keep her on the little scale) she later puffed back up. I tried some diy to make her comfortable in the last days like giving it a resting spoon to sit in and lots of attention and a special tea soak calming frog mix thing for their water.. everything in my power/pet store( best thing is prevention, keep anything with abrasive or with sharp/jagged edges out of the tank so they don’t scratch themselves and get infected, when I did that the other two thrived and never ever got sick) also, they can be friendly but they mostly fight… I used chopstick to break it up when I caught it and they would stop and go after the stick instead of each other😂 the girls can be real bullies but they will sometimes swim up to you (I keep an open tank so when I was near they would follow me at the surface, they would also peep their heads out the water when I cooked and keep their head out for a long time smelling zesty air) GREATEST PETS EVER!🥰🥰🥰

12:42 Cute! My African Clawed Frogs are definitely social too. I was wondering if I should get a single African Dwarf Frog for a 1 Gallon Tank I have since I heard 1 Gallon per frog but was unsure because of the fact I heard the same thing about African Dwarf Frogs being social, but perhaps it's not a big deal if I get a single Dwarf Froggy in a 1 Gallon Tank I have?
@chrisfishfrogs6 ай бұрын
I think having a single ADF would be fine, but I'd recommend at least a 2.5 gallon for a single adult ADF, preferably a 5 or a 10. One gallon is really going to restrict its movement. If the tank size is set, I'd suggest something else like a betta. Good luck!

Hello! I need some help. About 2 weeks ago I got 6 neon tetras and one African dwarf frog. I put them in a 5 gallon tank. From the beginning the frog wasn’t a good eater and the fish gobbled up their food perfect. Well over the last few days the fish have been dying one by one and had poor appetite. I checked my ph levels in tank and they were perfect so then checked ammonia level and that was the culprit. I changed about 50% of the water and things seemed better but yesterday I lost another fish (I’m down to two now) and this morning I noticed my frog is shedding his skin. Is that normal? And I still have yet to see him eat anything- I have offered blood worms and slow sinking pellets but have not seen him eat anything and I’m worried. Any help/suggestions, thank you.
@chrisfishfrogs6 ай бұрын
It sounds like your tank is going through the nitrogen cycle for the first time. Ammonia will not cause your frog to shed, but it might be the culprit if your frog is not eating. (Although it might have eaten its skin.) I suggest doing big water changes daily as your tank spikes in ammonia, then nitrite. Once the nitrite subsides, you can stop doing daily water changes, but that might be a few weeks off. You can get away with doing changes bigger than 50% (like 90%). Just try to match the temperature of the existing water as best you can (they make digital thermometers for aquariums), and make sure to use a dechlorinator liquid. Your priority at this point is to minimize the ammonia, which is highly toxic to your animals. Neon tetras are fairly sensitive, but your frog should be more robust. Good luck!

Shedding is fine and my frog ate its own skin but he is my most healthy frog and is VERY playful
@chrisgram3525 ай бұрын
Your frog might be attacking your fish making them weak too then they die, they do it in the dead of night but I’ve caught mine trying to eat my male guppies. Also they need friends.. I rescued my first dwarf frog because he was missing an arm and I felt bad for him and through research I found out they don’t do well on their own, got a few more and it became more active and thrived, they need fellow frogs. Also, too much activities in a small area will heighten chances of sickness especially since the water shouldn’t be changed often so please consider the amount of peers to water and that they absorb everything in the tank with their skin, it’s why I got them a 40 gallon then their 70 gallon oasis eventually. They will explore if you give them more room and be more active. Best of luck to you!

I hear they’re good fry control I was wondering because I want to start a ecosystem with endlers on top breeding and once they breed out of control I want to get African dwarf frogs to populate control will they destroy a colony? Also will they eat the fry in the first place?
@chrisfishfrogs7 ай бұрын
The frogs will definitely go after anything that moves in their vicinity. If they're lucky, they'll catch one. But fast fry will be hard for these slow-moving frogs to catch. Frogs will help with fry control, but endlers are pretty quick.

If the guppies are male, your frogs might try to eat them unsuccessfully when they get bigger. If they can fit most of it in their mouth, they will try to eat it and your guppies might look like they have fin rot from the ordeal of being almost eaten.🤷🏾♀️ this is from experience and witnessing it in person.

Will a Beta fish be an ok tank mate?
@chrisfishfrogs8 ай бұрын
Yes, but if your frog is aggressive then it might sometimes nip at your fish's tail.
@outtarespecttomyfawtha15898 ай бұрын
It really depends on the temperament of the beta fish and the frogs. I've had betas which I thought were acclimated to tank mates suddenly become aggressive and kill other fish and constantly harrass the frogs. It's honestly unfortunate but beta fish really are happiest and best off living with no tanks mates in a nice 20 gallon tank.

I have been wanting to get some African dwarf frogs for my 10 gallon tank for a while now. It currently is set up more to fit the needs of my 2 guppies that are in there, and thus is about 14 inches deep and has a relatively strong water flow. I have a beta leaf that can be put in as well as a tall standing tree and stump. I clean it every week, but use tap water and its strong filter and overdose of snails does the rest. Is this an okay set up and would they get along with the two male guppies I currently have in the tank?

As long at the frogs have some places to hide, it should be fine. You will likely need to target feed them, though, because the guppies will quickly consume all food before the frogs find it, even if you overfeed. Good luck!
