The biggest takeaway for me is "Science fiction isn't about predicting the future. It's about making the future."

Was just thinking about this exact thing today that why I can't buy into most sci-fi stories is that their vision of the future-of spaceships and voyages through the solar systems-doesn't seem to ring true to me.

Great talk until you get onto Islamophobia and why are you calling the Quran the holy Quran? A lot of nonsense there I hope you regret what you said I can’t listen anymore. I do not know if you covered the extensiveness of female genital mutilation in those countries child marriage, sexual abuse of women, girls and even little boys, etc. things that are a lot more publicized today than when you spoke on this. I know you’ve changed your political stance. Hope you’re a lot more educated about how anti-feminist Islam is..

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 🚀 Sci-fi often fails to accurately predict the future of technology despite its popularity and influence. 💡 Technological evolution is complex, with numerous competing approaches and unpredictable outcomes. 📚 Fictional portrayals of future technologies are often based on imaginative speculation rather than scientific principles. 🤖 The narrative fallacy leads to the illusion of inevitability in the development of technology, making accurate predictions challenging. 📱 Touchscreen technology, like that in smartphones, evolved through various experimental approaches over decades, with no clear indication of eventual success. 🌐 Despite multiple teams working on touch screen interfaces, predicting the success of one specific approach, like capacitive touch screens, was difficult. 💭 Science fiction writers face challenges in predicting technology due to their limited perspective within the ongoing evolution of technological development. 🎯 Successful technologies often emerge from a pool of competing ideas, making it challenging to foresee specific outcomes. 🔄 Technology evolution can be unpredictable due to path dependency, where latecomers may have advantages over incumbents, as seen in the development of cell phone networks. 🌍 Secondary applications of technology are often unforeseeable, such as the transformation of the internet from a medium for reading and writing to a platform for various purposes, including mining cyber currency. 🚗 Historical examples like the transition from steam-powered to gasoline-powered cars illustrate the unpredictability of technological progress and the diverse future possibilities for transportation. 🛠️ Science fiction serves as a medium for exploring the technology of collective decision-making, politics, and societal structures, rather than just focusing on machines and gadgets. 📚 Enduring sci-fi works like "1984" and "Brave New World" provide valuable metaphors and concepts for discussing power dynamics, surveillance, and collective apathy in society. 🌐 The proliferation of technology companies collaborating with governments raises concerns about surveillance and the erosion of privacy, highlighting the need for critical examination and awareness of power dynamics. 📖 Science fiction isn't about predicting the future with precision but rather about providing a framework for envisioning and shaping potential futures through storytelling and the exploration of new ideas. 💡 The role of science fiction extends beyond prediction to providing a language and vocabulary for discussing and understanding future technological and societal changes. 📝 Ken Liu views his role as a sci-fi writer differently, focusing more on literalizing metaphors rather than predicting the future. 🧠 He emphasizes the exploration of modernity and the human condition through technology in his stories. 💡 Liu draws inspiration from authors like Philip K. Dick, who used technology as a metaphor for aspects of modern life rather than focusing on future predictions. 🌍 He discusses the limitations of predicting the future and finds more interest in how people use technology rather than the predictions themselves. 🖋️ While politically active, Liu separates his fiction writing from direct messaging, preferring to construct worlds where readers can find their own meaning. 🎭 His story "The Paper Menagerie" is interpreted diversely, revealing more about the readers' perspectives than his intended meaning. 📚 Liu's identity as an Asian American writer doesn't necessarily dictate the themes or messages of his stories, which remain open to interpretation. 📖 He values the emotional resonance of his stories over clear, singular messages, allowing readers to explore various meanings within his narratives. Men did'nt teach women to be obsessed with cleaning. In fact, women bother their husbands to clean too much
@User-oy4mw4 ай бұрын
yes men didn't decide one day and started telling their wives to work, male dominated society did it over the time by idealizing and glorifying domesticity for a woman and and going as far as to link it to her biological gender to make it seem like it has always been the natural way if you're a female.

Over-correction does not diminish the point that fit people are more attractive. Men and women are attracted to fit partners. In a starving country, they value fatter women and in country flooded with fat feminists, they like underweight women.

Cosmo mag which has since been exposed that the FEMALE owner specifically told her writers/journalists to completely falsify studies and authority figures to gaslight girls/women into a sexual lifestyle inorder to sell more magizines and beauty products trying to follow the steps of the unreal IT girl. And how they deliberately and maliciously politically merged the original intent of feminism which was equality of opportunity , With Sexual Liberation turning girls/women into frat-boys

So if the argument is that beauty is not objective, but subjective, why are people now being told they SHOULD find obese women attractive? I thought it was subjective, and each person could decide for themselves what they are Aroused by? Pick a lane 😂

Why he uses Christianity as an example oh homophobia? At this stage of history, Islam is a blatant example of a culture that kills homosexuality. It is the most oppressive. Can't he say it? He is a hypocrite and a coward.

The à la carte cherry-picking of religious tenets by its practitioners has been more than well-accommodated by those willing to pick up the ball and establish a new variant as is demonstrated by the more than 200 denominations of Christianity in the U.S. and 45,000 worldwide. A good starting point for people to begin to question the supernatural beliefs they are literally being sold. Excellent lecture.

Wow when you were talking about Mr. President Deng had seen Empress Cixi's work as something he could continue working on in the new way. This give me an idea. Maybe in those days, Empress Cixi might have inspired Mr.president Deng to do so. Hypothetically if Empress Cixi is alived nowadays. She might be inspired by Mr.President Deng to do something for him. She might have talked to him personally. It's just my lame sense of humor which is about my imagination. I have no idea you'd say something about these two noble people. I just love them both. I gotta find your book

Everyone must try to do Aram. Aram is to do what you want. Aram is not even what you need but what you want. It is basic humanity. Aram is also about not hurting others. Do anything you want but not hurt others. Even most animals follow this rule, so why not humans. And if what you do benefits others then, it is perfect Aram.
