Hi again my ? I have a brother sewing machine and I practice free motion. Now working on a small Quilt so is it better to free motion each square first. 😊

@@barbarastuart5675 smaller quilts are way easier to practice on - for sure 👍

Amazing you make it look so easy 😮 I've practice and practice so just two fabric practice on or it's best to do 3 fabric. Been practice practice 10×10. Thank you for sharing your video ❤.

Why do you over run the edges please
@KarenMcTavish5 ай бұрын
Great question! You want to start quilting a few inches away from the actual edge of your quilt. With powerpanto - it’s an edge to edge design. After the quilting is finished, you trim your quilt to the edge of the quilt, run a stitch along the binding area to hold the quilting & secure it - so it doesn’t come out after you trim. Then bind the quilt. This edge to edge quilting looks really good once the binding is on. The binding looks like a frame around the quilt but it’s reinforced to hold all those quilting stitches that become insecure when the quilt is trimmed. Also you don’t want to randomly start quilting inside of the quilt - edge to edge means quilting off the page so to speak. Hope this makes sense!

Do you change your needle size depending on the weight of thread you use?

I use the same needle for all the threads I use - skinny thread to 40 weight - I am using the MR4 needle by Gross Beckert

Love your quilting, but with so much in each block, isn't the finished quilt extremely heavy? Thank you for sharing your work.
@KarenMcTavish9 ай бұрын
Yes. Most of the quilting I do is pretty heavy - but sometimes my intention is to create loft in the applique and push back the backgrounds.

I admit it's gorgeous, But doesn't such close quilting make the item rather stiff, like a matteress pad?
@KarenMcTavish11 ай бұрын
Very stiff. Yes. Sometimes there is a line between comfort/utility vs. art/making art. I can make quilts that are soft and warm. I’m quilting with the intention of making art. In modern quilting- you quilt from your gut and your interpretation of what is right or wrong. Modern quilters often reject what we are supposed to quilt and do the opposite. (The quilt police are non-existent).
